Sony PlayStation 5 has had a bitter-sweet journey ever since it was launched. It came loaded with incredible new features, an amazing DualSense controller, and some great games. But at the same time, it has faced massive stock availability issues since its inception. That is majorly owing to the chip availability crisis but that might end this year as pandemic seems to be settling now. The fact remains that PS5 is a well crafted next gen console and as soon as its availability crisis will end, it means bad news for old consoles. Unfortunately, these old consoles also include PS4 consoles which first launched in 2013.
PS4 and PS4 Games To Discontinue By 2025
Ever since the release of PS5, Sony has been working extensively towards improving it and remastering its PS4 games. But now it is quickly moving towards making PS5 Exclusive games and as already released games such as Demon’s Souls, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Returnal. Now they have decided on making most games for PS5 only and these include major titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Horizon: Call of the Mountains which won’t be available on PS4.
In Sony’s latest financial presentation, it was confirmed that they plan to completely end making titles for PS4. So, it clear that Sony is moving on and it is about time that it does, even though it is bad news for fans like me who are still stuck on PS4. But even so, it gives us nearly 3 years to move on and I am pretty sure by that time PS6 release would be near as well. Sony is now looking to sell the PS5 as its primary hardware and will discontinue selling PS4 consoles which include PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro as of now.
As you might be aware, PS4 Slim basically replaced the original PS4 in 2016, and along with it came a better and faster PS4 Pro console. These consoles have been in the market for almost a decade now and Sony PS4 became not just the most successful console by Sony, but also the entire console market. Nearly every PS fan wither owns or has owned a PS4 console as it totally changed the gaming scenario. The PS4 consoles also saw a tremendous rise after the release of Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, and Marvel’s Spiderman. With the arrival of PS4 and these games Sony established itself as a leader in the gaming market and this trend continues with PS5, even with all its availability crisis.
Anyways, we’ll have to bid goodbye to PS4 in a year or two and move on to next gen consoles as they are the present as well as the future of gaming. Also, when major titles won’t release on PS4, fans will have to make this switch, but that’s how the world works, unfortunately.
