Sony is to the gaming industry what Disney is to the Cinema industry. Not only are Sony’s original games are some of the best games ever made, Sony’s PlayStation series also is the biggest in console market. Talking about consoles though, PlayStation 5 has had a bitter-sweet journey ever since it was launched. It came loaded with incredible new features, an amazing DualSense controller, and some great games. But at the same time, it has faced massive stock availability issues since its inception. That was majorly owing to the chip availability crisis during Corona but that that is in the past now as its availability has now increased and things are settling down. But before even PS5 could fully live up to this new gen era, we already have some interesting news about a new PS5 variant!

PS5 Slim To Launch Soon! Watch Leaked Video Here

First of all, yes, a new variant of PS5 has been leaked and is about to launch shortly, but it will most likely not be called the PS5 Slim. That said, as per Tom Henderson this variant will be replacing the existing PlayStation 5 disc/digital version but this will not considered the “slim” version. The reason is quite simple, it is definitely not slim, as you can make out from the leaked video attached below or using this link.

The video launched a flurry of memes, with fan calling it “PS5 – Now 4% thinner!” before getting clarification that this won’t be called the Slim version at all. Anyways, It is not the best looking console but it seems like it comes with some upgrades and isn’t fully digital as earlier reports claimed it to be. As you can see, the disc slot is a part of the console, however, we do not know yet if the disc slot will have backwards compatibility. The new console appears to be both thinner and shorter, and features horizontal slits on both sides for design purposes.

The exact specs of the console aren’t known yet. We expect it to feature the new AMD APU with a Zen 4 CPU and an RDNA 3 GPU. The PS5 features a Zen 3 CPU and an RDNA 2 GPU, for some context. Team Red has improved efficiency and performance with the new generation of products. Thus, we can expect the upcoming console to deliver a solid performance. One other thing to note is that the alleged slim console appears to have removed the front-facing USB-A port. The biggest feature however is that it provides users the option to have a disc drive or not via a detachable disc drive. Although, the detachable drive not usable on digital versions of the current PS5 this could change with future update.

As for the release date, it is expected to launch sometime in fall 2023 itself. In a court case against Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Sony revealed the slimline PS5 will launch “later this year,” which means we can assume a launch window of Holidays 2023. Talking about the price, the exact price isn’t known yet but as per reports from numerous sources, it will cost nearly as much as the PS5 Digital variant costed when it debuted which was US$399.

We’ll sure be receiving more updates about this variant in the future alongside the rumored PS5 Pro variant. So, make sure to stay in touch with us.
