Nosferatu Theatrical Release Date Confirmed!

The classic vampire movie Nosferatu is getting an update, in the form of Robert Eggers’ remake – Nosferatu. The new film reconceives the iconic 1922 vampire movie by filmmaker F. W. Murnau. The star of the IT movies for playing Pennywise the clown, Bill Skarsgård has been cast as the new Count Orlok, while The Idol star Lily-Rose Depp is also among the lead stars. Robert Eggers is one of the most unconventional directors working in Britain. In the age of superhero movies, the man resorts to make period films that are extremely experimental in nature. So, him taking on the responsibility of helming a Nosferatu film is special. Just last month, we got the first look of the Robert Eggers directorial. The photo was impactful and promises a scary adventure. It looks like Eggers has chosen just the right time to scare audiences as he is bringing his latest venture on Christmas.

Nosferatu To Debut On Christmas 2024!

According to a new report from Variety, Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu is all set to arrive in theatres on December 25th, 2024. While it is good to see a horror film finding a slot during the holiday season which is generally crowded with family movies, but this release date could prove tricky to the film’s financial performance. The release date coincides with an untitled film directed by popular horror-thriller filmmaker Jordan Peele.

While details about Peele’s project remain scarce, it could pave the way for two adult-themed horror films to compete for similar audiences during the highly coveted holiday season. Just days earlier, Disney’s prequel to The Lion King, titled Mufasa, and Paramount’s upcoming entry in the Sonic franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, are both scheduled for release on Dec. 20th. So, it looks like December of 2024 is going to be a busy month at the movies.

In Nosferatu, Depp plays Ellen Hutter, the wife of real estate agent Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult, Renfield). Eggers teased that Depp is absolutely phenomenal with her performance “even more Ellen’s story than previous versions.” On Skarsgård’s Orlok, Eggers added, “I’ll say that Bill has so transformed, I’m fearful that he might not get the credit that he deserves because he’s just… he’s not there. He felt like honoring [the previous Orlok actors] who had come before him. It’s all very subtle. But I think the main thing is that he’s even more a folk vampire. In my opinion he looks like a dead Transylvanian nobleman, and in a way that we’ve never actually seen what an actual dead Transylvanian nobleman would look like and be dressed like.”

When asked how scary is the remake, Eggers didn’t hold anything back, “Yeah, it’s a scary film. It’s a horror movie. It’s a Gothic horror movie”. Eggers teased a truly terrifying adaptation, “I do think that there hasn’t been an old-school Gothic movie that’s actually scary in a while. And I think that the majority of audiences will find this one to be the case.”

Nosferatu will premiere in theaters on December 25th 2024.
