Marvel Studios Secret Invasion series which is going to premiere soon on the streaming service D+, has one of the actors confirmed to star. Martin Freeman, who previously appeared in the MCU as CIA agent Everett K Ross in Captain America: Civil War(2016) and Black Panther (2018) is confirmed to return for the series. The release date for Secret Invasion is currently unknown but it might be revealed at the Comic Con event or D23 convention taking place soon in a few days.
Secret Invasion Plot, Cast and More
Secret Invasion is based on the Marvel Comics storyline of the same name that ran between 2008-2009. The web series is said to contain six episodes, similar to all other MCU shows on the streaming service D+ and the release date is yet to be announced soon. The plot of the Secret Invasion is going to differ from that of the comics according to trade sources. The plot is currently under wraps but according to the basic premise Secret Invasion will explore the aftermath of a covert infiltration of Earth by a sect of shape-shifting aliens, the Skrulls.
The series cast so far includes Samuel L. Jackson, Freeman and Cheadle (returning as War Machine / James Rhodes), Cobie Smulders and Ben Mendelson will also be reprising their respective roles of S.H.I.E.L.D agent Maria Hill and Skrull leader Talos. Newcomers joining the MCU through the series include Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Killian Scott, Carmen Ejogo, Kinglsey and Ben-Adir.
Martin Freeman has said the following about his involvement in the series in a recent interview with Radio Times.
“Yeah – I think that’s kosher information, isn’t it? In order not to embarrass Samuel, I will say… I’m not gonna say he’s got that totally wrong and he’s thinking of Sam Rockwell,” he joked. “So yes, I may very well be [appearing].”
