Sony Picture Animation’s successful sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will officially start streaming soon in the United States. Spider-Verse 2 had a highly profitable financial run at the box office, worldwide. It became hugely popular, grossing around $690 million while it was in theatres. The film was recently made available to purchase digitally on August 8. The physical copies (DVD, Blu-Ray, and 4K Ultra HHD) became available a month later on September 5.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse: When and Where to Watch?
According to Deadline, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available to stream on Netflix starting on Tuesday, October 31. The film had a long window compared to other films as its theatrical release date was on June 2, which means the film will be added to a streaming service after 151 days. Most of the recent DCU and MCU projects were added to streaming services within 65-90 from their theatrical release dates.
However, it is going to be even longer before the movie hits Disney+. Netflix and Sony Pictures have an agreement that states Netflix can exclusively stream all of Sony’s projects during a film’s Pay 1 period, which is a window of time directly following a movie’s theatrical window. Disney and Sony also have a deal where Sony titles can be included in the Disney+ library. This is why some of the live-action Spider-Man movies are available on Disney+. However, since the deal with Netflix was made first, Disney+ has to wait until the film is past its Pay 1 window.
A film’s Pay 1 window usually ends around 18 months after its theatrical release. Considering the usual timeline, Spider-Verse 2 wouldn’t show up on Disney+ until December 2024.
