The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a 2023 animated adventure comedy film produced by Illumination in association with Nintendo, and will be distributed by Universal Pictures. It is the third feature film adaptation of Nintendo’s Mario video game franchise, following the anime film Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! (1986) and the live-action film Super Mario Bros. (1993). The film is being directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic features voice acting by Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Seth Rogen among others. Yes, Super Mario Bros Movie Has Two Post Credit Scenes!
Post credit scenes have been popularized by the superhero genre of films and Super Mario Bros Movie is the latest one to implement that. As it happens, there is not one, but actually two post credit scenes in the film which include a mid-credits scene and an after-credits scene. While, we we have details on both these scenes, this particular article talks about scene number 2 aka the post credit scene. So, first of all, if you do not want spoilers, leave now and if you do, the check out the full scene below along with a short description.
In the Super Mario Bros. Movie after credits scene or post credit scene 2, we return to the underground pipe system where Mario and Luigi were initially transported to the Mushroom Kingdom early. During the film’s third act Mario led the giant Bullet Bill into the warp pipe causing the projectile to explode as it exited the warp pipe, destroying the surrounding network of pipes. The detonation resulted in the now-overpowered warp pipe inadvertently transporting a bunch of the film’s main cast and some other objects to Brooklyn. That’s why the film’s final showdown between the Mario brothers and Bowser takes place in the New York borough.
Once Bowser is beaten, everyone heads back to the Mushroom Kingdom except for one thing which is a “Yoshi egg”. As the camera slowly zooms in on the object, it starts to hatch. The screen cuts to black as the egg breaks apart, and all we hear is the green-colored dinosaur saying his own name. This is where the scene as well as the film ends suggesting we’ll see Yoshi if a sequel is made! You can also check out the first post credit scene or the mid credits scene here.
Super Mario Bros movie is now out in select theatres and will release worldwide on 7th April, 2023.
