Jensen Ackles, who currently stars in Amazon Prime’s The Boys, will be more than happy to reprise his role on the CW series Supernatural when the time is right. Talking to CinePOP, Ackles said, “Touching on rebooting Supernatural, yeah, I don’t think that was something – I don’t think Jared and I hung up the boots, so to speak, as a permanent move. It was more of like, 15 years, we need to just press pause. It’s a long time, and come up for air and see what that looks like, and this is what it looks like. But what the future holds – yeah, I definitely think he and I would be up for talking about that.”
The Winchesters: Ackles Is Coming Back With A Supernatural Prequel
Supernatural, a monster-hunting television series created by Eric Kripke and starring Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles as Sam and Dean Winchester, aired on The CW for 15 seasons, concluding its 327-episode run on November 19, 2020. While Padalecki featured in The CW’s relaunch of Walker, Texas Ranger, Ackles most recently played Soldier Boy in Season 3 of Prime Video’s The Boys. Ackles revealed that he would be producing a Supernatural prequel series called The Winchesters a few months after the series ended, while a Supernatural reboot has not yet been confirmed.
The Winchesters, announced in June 2021, is presently in development since acquiring a pilot order from The CW. Through their production business Chaos Machine Productions, Jensen and Danneel Ackles are acting as executive producers. Robbie Thompson, another Supernatural veteran who also worked on the original series as a producer and writer, will be penning the prequel.
The Winchesters will follow Sam and Dean Winchester as they “put it all on the line to not only save their love but the entire world”, as told from Dean’s point of view. The show will centre on Sam and Dean Winchester’s parents, John and Mary, in the early stages of their “epic, love story.” The only cast member from the original series confirmed to return for the prequel is Jensen Ackles, who will reprise his Supernatural role as Dean Winchester in the prequel as the series’ narrator. Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger will play John and Mary Winchester, respectively.
All 15 seasons of Supernatural are available right now on Netflix. The Winchesters will debut on The CW on October 11.
