Focus Features has acquired global rights to the New Regency film, which was earlier set up in Disney’s 20th Century. Directed by Jeff Nichols, the film premiered in Telluride and was scheduled for a December 1 release. The crime period piece was removed from Disney’s calendar last month. According to sources, it was New Regency’s decision and not Disney’s. The production company also decided to remove “The Bikeriders” from the Disney calendar due to the inability to promote the feature, which carries a $40 million production budget, during the SAG-AFTRA strike.
