Even after being a classic assassin story, John Wick (2014) brought a lot of new things to the table. The Gun-Fu action style it showcased became a USP of John Wick and so did Keanu Reeves’ portrayal of the character. Well, as expected the tremendous success of the film launched a franchise which debuted John Wick: Chapter 2 in 2017, JW: Chapter 3 – Parabellum in 2019, and John Wick: Chapter 4 in 2023. Now, John Wick is further expanding its world with two planned spin offs – Ballerina and The Continental. While Ballerina is quite ahead in the production stages itself, The Continental is now ready and all set to debut next month!
What Is John Wick Spin-Off The Continental
So, first of all, those of you who aren’t aware, The Continental series is the first planned spin-off in the John Wick saga and has been directed by Albert Hughes and Charlotte Brändström. The show is based of the very important underworld hotel chain of Jon Wick universe called The Continental, one of which is run by Winston Scott (played by Ian Mcshane) in the main series. However, this series is a prequel set back in 1970’s which will serve as the origin story of Winston as well as the underworld of John Wick.
It will showcase how Winston reached his position as proprietor of the New York branch of “The Continental” chain of hotels, safe havens for legal assassins on the grounds of which no business may ever take place. The Continental will also explore variations on real-world events, including the Winter of Discontent and the American Mafia’s rise to economic power. The main cast includes Colin Woodell as Winston Scott, Mel Gibson as Cormac who runs the continental of NY during 1970s, Hubert Point-Du Jour as Miles, Jessica Allain as Lou, Mishel Prada as KD, Nhung Kate as Yen, Ben Robson as Frankie, and Peter Greene as Uncle Charlie.
That aside, the show will also feature Ayomide Adegun as Charon, who was portrayed by late Lance Reddick in the main John Wick films. Additional cast includes, Jeremy Bobb as Mayhew, Katie McGrath as The Adjudicator, Sallay Garnett as The Concierge, Ray McKinnon as Jenkins, Adam Shapiro as Lemmy, Mark Musashi as Hansel, and Marina Mazepa as Gretel. The Continental will consist a total of 3 episodes which will air weekly on PEACOCK from September 22, 2023.
Will Keanu Reeves Return As John Wick in The Continental?
The simple answer would be no as it is a prequel series and John would either have not been born by then or would be a kid. So, no, Keanu Reeves will not return as John Wick in The Continental, however, it is possible we see some easter egg related to John’s family or a really John. We expect to see a lot of main film series easter eggs in this web series and of course tons of Gun-fu action which literally defines this franchise.
Once again, The Continental is slated to release to on 22nd September 2023 only on Peacock!
