The Creator, as you may know, is one of the new releases from last week. Being an original sci-fi film belonging to no IP, it is facing difficulties in finding an audience amidst fan favorites like Saw X and Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie. The film is from Gareth Edwards who we know from Star Wars and Monsterverse. The film has opened to mixed reviews with critics. While no one is calling it a bad film, there is a general notion that the Gareth Edwards directorial is visually stunning, thanks to Greg Frasier, but the film is emotionally deaf. The Creator debuted with a 76% Rotten Tomatoes score, currently, the film stands at 67% from 255 reviews. A new sci-fi film potentially means the birth of a new franchise. So, is The Creator expanding its universe? Let’s find out.
The Creator 2 Is Not A Possibility!
In an exclusive interview with The Direct, director Gareth Edwards talked about a potential sequel for The Creator. Edwards added, “It was a completely self-contained story. I don’t like films personally that tried to set them—you know, unless, you know, going in [that] this is part of a wider story. I feel like it’s a bit cocky to just do part one of a three-part thing if it turns out—Basically, my favorite thing about cinema versus television is that cinema ends. My favorite part of the story is the ending. And I really like it when you sort of work backward from the end, and everything’s leading up to this climax, where there’s a kind of mic drop moment, and in the credits roll, they’re my favorite kind of films.”
Edwards concluded with, “… And so I, there’s no intention to do part two or anything like [that]. It’s a high-class problem to have if this film did well enough that the studio wanted to do that, you know, then you’d scratch your head and have to think about it. But I really, I’m very happy to see this being a standalone, one-off self-contained story. [Those are] my favorite types of films.” The film stars John David Washington, Gemma Chan, Ken Wantanabe, Amar Chadha-Patel, Benedict Wong and Allison Janney.
