The Exorcist: Believer Online Release

The Exorcist (1973) is so embedded in the hearts of horror fanatics that most of the recent horror films pay homage to the William Friedkin directorial. The insurmountable success of the film forced the studio to make sequels of the film that amounted to nothing. Now, 50 years since the original film, there is a sequel in the works – The Exorcist: Believer. It would be a direct sequel to the original and would disregard every other film in the franchise. However, The Exorcist: Believer has opened up to one of the worst critical receptions of the year. The sequel also didn’t have success at the box office. Made on a budget of $30 million, the film has only earned $46.5 million (worldwide) in six days of theatrical release. This week the new Taylor Swift movie comes out, which means Believer won’t have much footfalls resulting in poorer box office numbers. The studio is naturally frustrated by this and hence, we have an update on the digital release date of the sequel.

The Exorcist: Believer Gets A Surprisingly Quick Digital Release Date!

When To Stream reports that The Exorcist: Believer will become available for purchase on digital and VOD platforms on Tuesday, October 24th, 2023. This means the film will have its online release just 17 days after its theatrical debut. Likely to bring the movie to digital in time for Halloween. Universal Pictures is the film’s distributor, and the studio had set 17 days as the minimum period of theatrical exclusivity during 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic as part of a deal with AMC Theatres, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hence, The Exorcist: Believer will at least have to run in theatres exclusively for the first 17 days. If you’re one the people who want to enjoy a horror film at home, then Believer will be available to watch at peak Halloween season. The film is directed by David Gordon Green, the director behind the Halloween sequel trilogy and stars Ellen Burstyn, Olivia Marcum, Leslie Odom Jr., Jennifer Nettles and Lidya Jewett.
