The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is the first Hunger Games movie in about eight years. The original trilogy of films based on the book trilogy was an instant hit with the audiences as the franchise earned over $2.970 billion worldwide across three films. However, this fourth film isn’t a studio trying to capitalize on the franchise’s name and make a cash grab prequel. Well, of course the studio is trying to capitalize, but the film only happened because author Suzanne Collins came out with the prequel book during the pandemic. The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes had lukewarm critical response with Rachel Zegler being as controversial as she is, it is fair to say that the film didn’t have a happy outing at the cinemas. Which is why the studio has quickly opted for digital options.
Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds And Snakes Gets Imminent Digital Release!
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes will be available on digital and VOD platforms like Amazon Prime, Vudu and Apple iTunes for purchase from 19th December, 2023. This is roughly one month after opening in theaters, (32 days to be exact) and gives audience members the chance to re-watch or watch The Hunger Games prequel for the first time at home this Holiday Season. Many earlier reports predicted that the film might get an online release date on on Friday, December 8.
That window seems a little lean so a realistic prediction would be Friday, December 15th, or Friday, December 22nd. The physical media, Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K UHD versions of the film are also available to preorder and are expected to arrive in early 2024. In recent years, Starz has been the official streaming home of Lionsgate movies, with many of its successful blockbusters coming to the platform after a theatrical run. Lionsgate has a deal to bring its releases to Peacock 18 months after their theatrical debut.
It means if the Hunger Games 2023 spin-off hits Starz in May, then the film will come to Peacock sometime around December 2025. The prequel stars Rachel Zegler, Tom Blyth, Max Raphael, Zoe Renee, Ayomide Adegun, Kaitlyn Akinpelumi, Sofia Sanchez and Amélie Hoeferle.
