The Mummy 4 Is Officially Back: Yes, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Are Returning

Cue the ancient chanting and dramatic sandstorms. The Mummy franchise is rising from the cinematic tomb once again. And this time, it is bringing the original icons back with it. Universal Pictures has officially confirmed a new Mummy movie, often called The Mummy 4 by fans. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz will reprise their legendary roles as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell, reuniting for the first time in more than two decades. The film is set to hit theaters on May 19, 2028.

The Cast Returns Like a Glorious Desert Mirage

Brendan Fraser returns as Rick O’Connell, the swashbuckling adventurer who turned khaki into a personality trait. Rachel Weisz returns as Evelyn O’Connell, the brilliant Egyptologist who somehow managed to be smarter than everyone while still running from cursed undead priests.

This reunion is huge because Weisz did not appear in the third film, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, where the role was recast. Now, fans finally get the classic duo back together, which feels like the cinematic equivalent of your favorite comfort food returning to the menu. Fraser will also serve as an executive producer, meaning he is not just punching mummies, he is punching paperwork too.

Who Is Making This Ancient Chaos

The film will be directed by Matt Bettinelli Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the duo behind Ready or Not and the recent Scream films. David Coggeshall, known for Orphan First Kill, is writing the script.

Translation: expect action, scares, humor, and maybe one character who absolutely should not touch the cursed artifact but will anyway.

Plot Details Are Still Under Wraps Literally

Universal is keeping the plot tightly sealed like a cursed sarcophagus. What we know is that the film will act as a continuation of the original storyline rather than the 2017 reboot starring Tom Cruise. That reboot tried to start a shared monster universe and instead started a lot of memes.

The new movie aims to recapture the tone of the 1999 classic, blending adventure, horror, romance, and chaotic archaeology. Directors have promised a mix of epic spectacle and fun scares, which sounds exactly like the cinematic dessert we deserve.

Why Fans Are Losing Their Minds

The original Mummy films from 1999 and 2001 were massive hits and helped define early 2000s blockbuster energy. Fraser and Weisz had insane chemistry, iconic one-liners, and the ability to make running from undead creatures feel romantic.

This new film also comes during a huge Brendan Fraser renaissance. After winning an Oscar for The Whale, he has become Hollywood’s favorite wholesome comeback story. So yes, the timing is perfect, the nostalgia is strong, and the thirst is real.

What Comes Next

The Mummy 4 is scheduled for May 19, 2028, giving Universal plenty of time to build hype, summon sandstorms, and maybe resurrect Imhotep again.

Until then, plot details will stay mysterious, casting announcements will drip slowly like cursed treasure, and fans will keep rewatching the original movies while whispering “Imhotep” dramatically into the void.
