The Umbrella Academy – Steve Blackman Expresses Budget Constraints
Blackman claims that he wanted to adapt the sequence of Hargeeves siblings battling comic villain Gustave Eiffel from the first few pages of Apocalypse Suite, but after he consulted with the effects crew and found out the budget it requires to bring the sequence to screen, he dropped the idea.
Here’s what the showrunner has said about trying to adapt the sequences from The Umbrella Academy comics and dropping them over budgetary constraints.
“There’s the great Eiffel Tower story we wanted to do from the first few pages of the kids fighting Gustave Eiffel and the tower that comes to life as a robot. We’ve budgeted those things. I sat down with the effects teams and said, “How much would this be?” And then I get sticker shock. There’s some things I wanted to do in Dallas in Season 2 that we simply couldn’t afford to do, but we did get to Dealey Plaza. I was really proud we could actually do that.”
Though budget issues have prevented Blackman from adapting the desired sequences from comics, the creator did a remarkable job in coming up with captivating battle sequences that depict the powers of the protagonists with a compelling CGI work.
