The Witcher Season 3 Vol. 2

The Witcher universe is filled with mediocrity and it has also lost its most valuable asset – Henry Cavill who played the titular character The Witcher or Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill as we’re all aware is a big fan of games and The Witcher happens to be one of his favorites so him himself playing Geralt was a very good thing. However, unfortunately, the other factors didn’t seem to work for the show and both the seasons of The Witcher at best had mixed reviews from audience even though critics lauded it. After playing the Geralt for three seasons, it was announced last year by Netflix that Cavill would be replaced by Liam Hemsworth from the fourth season of the show. Which means the newest season streaming on the platform is Cavill’s last. Well, kind of. As Season 3 is a two part-er, so you might be asking when will the second part release?

When Will The Witcher Season 3 Return With Vol 2?

The Witcher Season 3 Vol. 2 will start streaming on Netflix from July 27th. That means the final few episodes of the show will release almost a month later the first part (which released on June 29th). This is same strategy that the platform used last year for Stranger Things 4, as the first seven episodes of the season released on May 27th 2022 and the last two episodes released on July 1st 2022. Another example is Ozark’s last season which released in two parts (7 episodes each) part one on January 21st 2022 and part two came out in April 29th 2022.

Just like both of the series, the first part of The Witcher Season 3 (review here) ended on a terrible cliffhanger that left audiences shocked. Incase, you didn’t understand the ending of Season 3 Vol. 1 then continue to read below:

Ok, so some of you might be wondering what the hell happened at the end of Episode 5 and who exactly is Vilgefortz and what does he plan to do. So, here’s what you need to know without being spoiled about the future episodes. The politics angle is pretty simple – everyone wants Ciri for her elder blood and the prophecy regarding it. At the ball, we see all the northern kingdoms’ spies and sorcerers uniting in hopes to plan how to deal with Ciri and the advance of Nilfgard led by Emhyr (Ciri’s father who also wants her). Among all this, our protagonists doubt Stegabor’s loyalties and motivations but ultimately, it turns out that Vilgefortz is the one playing the double game.

So, before the conclave can actually begin, something terrible is about to happen and we see Witcher being held by Dijkstra (spy of Redania) with a knife to his throat. Now, what you need to know about Vilgefortz is that he is an exceptionally powerful wizard and the main antagonist of the saga from here on. At the end of episode 5, it is revealed that he is the one pulling all the strings and also the man responsible for setting Rience on relentless pursuit of Ciri. What will happen in the upcoming few episodes will leave you shattered, and elevate the series to a new level, if executed well. It will also serve as the perfect transition point from Henry Cavill to Liam Hemsworth.

The Witcher Season 3 Vol. 1 is currently available for streaming on Netflix. Vol. 2 will be out on the streaming giant on 27th July 2023.
