As the first hero to take the helm of a fourth solo trip, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor will make history for the Marvel Cinematic Universe this week. However, the Australian actor won’t be alone this time since Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, his first love interest, is back. But time she will be taking on the role of Thor and wielding Mjolnir as they face off against Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher in Thor 4: Love and Thunder.
With Portman set to reprise her Marvel role for the first time in eight years, fans have been wondering whether her new version of Thor will be a one-and-done or whether she may be in for the long haul. Recent reports suggest that it may be the latter, as Jane Foster could be in line to lead her own solo outing in the MCU.

Insider Greatphase (known for his recent MCU leaks) retweeted an old tweet of his saying that Jane Foster Mighty Thor is definitely getting her solo project. According to fans, Jane as Thor is one of the best character runs of the decade, with so many stories that can be adapted for the movies. As Earth Thor in the comics, she fights Roxxon, a giant corporation that wanted to capitalize off Asgard on Earth and also faces Mangog and the Shi’ar Deities as Space Thor.
If Thor: Love and Thunder were to remain true to the original source material, Foster would have cancer in the film, which originally prompted her to wield Mjolnir to save her life.
Jane Foster leading her own standalone project implies trouble for Hemsworth’s hero in the MCU, as Marvel is unlikely to want two Thor franchises coexisting. In Marvel Comics, Foster joined the Avengers after assuming the role of Thor, where she also developed a romance with Sam Wilson’s Captain America. On the other hand, the original Thor became Odinson and continued his quest without his trusted hammer, Mjolnir.
Similarly, Hemsworth might eventually stay in the MCU while stepping down from the leading male role, while Portman could carry forward Thor’s legacy in a fifth film or Disney+ series.
However, in a recent interview, Natalie Portman expressed that although she enjoyed the experience, she has no interest in going through that kind of training regime again because of how much hard work and dedication it takes to bulk up and maintain.
It will be interesting to see what it is given her fate in Thor: Love and Thunder, which hits theatres on July 8, 2022.
