2023 is undoubtedly a big year for video games and so far it has already delivered much awaited titles such as Hogwarts Legacy, Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Final Fantasy XVI, Diablo IV, Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, and Street Fighter 6. Aside from these highly anticipated titles, we also a wild card impressing fans and critics alike in the form of Baldur’s Gate 3. Finally, just a few days ago, we saw the release of Starfield, which is also being lauded by gamers. But 2023 isn’t done yet and some widely anticipated titles are yet to arrive. So, here are the top 6 biggest video games yet to release in 2023 in the order of their launch dates.
Mortal Kombat 1 (September 19)
If you are a gamer it isn’t possible that you haven’t heard of the Mortal Kombat series. The first game of the series debuted in 1992 and since then there have been 21 main games and 3 spin-offs. Mortal Kombat 1 is will be the 12th main instalment in the Mortal Kombat series, serving as both a sequel to Mortal Kombat 11 (2019) and the series’ second reboot, following Mortal Kombat (2011). Mortal Kombat 1 is set to be released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Microsoft Windows and Xbox Series X/S on September 19, 2023, which is now just a week away.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage (October 12)
There are only a few video game series which enjoy the same level of fan following and hype as the Assassin’s Creed series. Owing to consistently great performance of the series, fans will be getting yet another epic game by the name of Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. The game is set in Baghdad and will show the evolution of Basim a few decades before his appearance in AC: Valhalla. In the first trailer that came out a few months back we saw a young Basim being trained in the ways of the Brotherhood and being taught the basic tenants of the organization. It is a back-to-basics approach for the long-running series, with Ubisoft returning to the stealth-action, narrative-driven roots that defined Altair and Ezio’s earliest adventures. Assassin’s Creed Mirage will release PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S and Microsoft Windows on 12th October 2023.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (October 20)
Sony’s original games are some of the best games ever made with loads of Game Awards titles to their names. One such game is Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018) which was highly praised for its incredible VFX, open world, and insane swing mechanics which made users feel like Spidey themselves. Then, in 2020 we got its spin-off called Spider-Man: Miles Morales which was equally praised however was criticized a bit for its short length. Since then fans have been eagerly waiting Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 which is all set to release on October 20 exclusively for PS5. Much like, Sony’s God of War and Horizon series, there is tremendous hype around this game. The sequel will also introduce gamers to one of the most popular Spider-Man characters Venom, alongside Kraven the Hunter, Harry Osborn, Grizzly, and Lizard.
Alan Wake 2 (October 27)
Alan Wake 2 is a sequel to the very successful game Alan Wake which released many years ago. The game was developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Microsoft Game Studios. It is supposed to be an action adventure with the premise – “Novelist Alan Wake tries to uncover the mystery behind his wife’s disappearance during a vacation in the small fictional town of Bright Falls, Washington, all while experiencing events from the plot in his latest novel, which he cannot remember writing, coming to life.” 13 years after the release of the original game, a sequel is to be released by Sony which will take us back to the nightmares. Alan Wake 2 will release on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on October 17, 2023.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (November 10)
The Call of Duty is one of the biggest franchises in history. It has fans from distinct eras. It has existed for 20 years now, meaning there are COD of different generations. The original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is regarded as the golden age of the franchise. Now we’ve come so far that we are getting the third sequel of the remake franchise called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. When it comes to fans of shooter games, Modern Warfare 3 is the game they have been waiting for all year. Well, the wait is almost over as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will release on November 10 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (December 7)
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is an upcoming open-world action-adventure video game based on James Cameron’s Avatar film series. The game is being developed by Massive Entertainment and will be published by Ubisoft for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on December 7, 2023. It’s an FPS game where players take control of a Na’vi orphan raised and trained as a soldier by the RDA, before being put into suspended animation and waking up fifteen years later in an abandoned facility. The player must embark on a journey across the Western Frontier, a never-before-seen region of Pandora, discovering their origins and organizing the local Na’vi tribes to fight back against the RDA as they attempt to exploit the natural resources of the Western Frontier. The game is also set to feature 2 player co-op functionality making it one of the most highly anticipated upcoming gaming titles.
