Toy Story 5

Toy Story is one of the biggest animated franchises when it comes to box office numbers or fan following. The infamous franchise began all the way back in 1995 and the imminent success of the first film spawned a sequel which was received with the same love and more financial success. This was the first time that fans thought the franchise would end considering the ending of the second film. Everyone assumed the makers had planned a duology and we won’t see anymore from the Toy world. However, after a gap of eleven years Toy Story returned with the third installment in its saga and once again was super successful. It even crossed the $1 Billion mark globally. This was the second time fans felt that the franchise had ended for good. It seemed natural to end with a trilogy.

However, nine years later we got the fourth installment, which once again did great at the box office, becoming the second film in the franchise to cross $1 Billion. The fourth film ended on a bittersweet note where Woody rode off into the sunset with Bo Peep and her sheep. This was a near perfect end and fans thought the franchise has ended for good. Following Toy Story 4, a new Disney+ series debuted starring the franchise’s new icon Forky along with the big screen spin-off of Buzz Lightyear. The world of Toy Story continued in various forms but fans were wondering if the story of the main characters over? Well, it seems like it has not yet.

Toy Story 5 In The Works At Disney!

CEO Bob Iger at Disney’s Q1 Financial results conference call officially confirmed that Toy Story 5 is in development at Disney This new follows the release of the fourth installment along with Chris Evans’ Lightyear which the original Toy Story director wasn’t fond of. Fifth installment of the Toy Story franchise isn’t a new thing and has been spoken of by many people involved in the project.

During a press tour for Toy Story 4, Mark Nielsen, producer revealed to Comicbook.com how Pixar looks at each new film, “Every film we make, we treat it like it’s the first and the last film we’re ever going to make. So you force yourself to make it hold up. You don’t get in over your skis. Whether there’s another one? I don’t know. If there is, it’s tomorrow’s problem.”

Buzz Lightyear actor Tim Allen also spoke about the potential fifth film in the franchise back in 2019 To Entertainment Tonight, “Once you’ve gotten to four, you’re passed that trilogy [point], so I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t do it, certainly. If you ask me, I’d say do five.”

Toy Story 5 doesn’t have a release date at the time of writing.
