If you may remember, in 2021, surprising news surfaced regarding the development of an Xbox-exclusive action RPG inspired by the famous hip-hop collective Wu-Tang Clan, known by the codename “Project Shaolin.” During that time, details emerged indicating that the game would feature 4-player co-op, replayable dungeons, various challenges, and seasonal content, giving it a vibe reminiscent of a Wu-Tang-themed version of Destiny. However, no updates or information about the project have been disclosed since the initial leaks. That was until now as we have now received some new details about the rumored game!
Project Shaolin – The Wu-Tang Clan Themed XBox Game Details Revealed!
Brass Lion Entertainment’s co-op melee combat game, Project Shaolin, is anticipated to showcase the participation of all nine Wu-Tang Clan members, integrating their music seamlessly into the gameplay. The game is expected to debut as an Xbox console exclusive and could potentially join the Xbox Game Pass lineup in the future, although an official unveiling is still pending. As per reports, the game still won’t be revealed at The Game Awards 2023, however, brand new information about the game has been revealed by InsiderGaming.

The gameplay revolves around fast-paced melee combat in the third person, with a strong focus on intertwining both music and combat. Players can choose from four different weapons, each with unique playstyles (such as single swords, dual swords, etc.). It’s understood that the game features a massive catalog of the Wu-Tang Clan’s music, most of which has been re-imagined by producer and DJ Just Blaze for the game.
Gathered loot and items all fit into the game’s central social hub, named the ‘Neighborhood’. Here, players will be able to sell their loot, listen to music, and show off their unique fashion choices with one another. Sources have also outlined that the game will be a “welcome space for all players” and will center around characters from BIPOC and historically marginalized communities.
As for people who aren’t aware, the Wu-Tang Clan, a legendary hip-hop collective, comprises nine distinct and influential members. Formed in the early ’90s, they revolutionized rap with their unique blend of martial arts imagery, complex lyricism, and gritty production. Each member brought a distinctive style, contributing to the group’s success. With their groundbreaking debut album, “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers),” they solidified their place in music history, leaving an enduring impact on the genre.
Aside from this, Xbox has a lot of projects in the works right now including Contraband at Avalanche Studios, a fantasy title in Project Dragon at IO Interactive, as well as a handful of smaller titles like Ara: History Untold and Towerborne. Wu-Tang Clan themed Project Shaolin is expected to release by fall 2024 exclusively on XBox Series X/S.
