Aquaman 2 and The Lost Kingdom is the sequel to the 2018 film. Aquaman was directed by James Gunn and the film’s success is much to his credit. The film revolved around Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry fighting his half-brother Orm played by Patrick Wilson, and fulfilling his destiny as the Ruler of the Seven Seas. The film was good, which is sight for sore eyes when it comes to the DCEU. The film at least back then was part of the Snyderverse which included Ben Affleck’s Batman. However, after appearing in Dawn of Justice (2016) and The Justice League, both the theatrical and Snyder Cut, Ben Affleck hung up the cape of Batman. DC found a new Batman in Robert Pattinson however, it doesn’t look like he is part of this universe.
Even after stepping down from the role, Ben Affleck was supposed to appear as Batman/Bruce Wayne in Flashpoint releasing next year and based on a recent post from Aquaman star Jason Momoa, it looks like Ben Affleck might not be done as Batman just yet.
Aquaman 2 – Is Ben Affleck Confirmed to Return as Batman?
The post sees Jason Momoa leaning on the shoulders of Ben Affleck, who not to mention is dressed up exactly like Bruce Wayne. The caption of the post reads, “REUNITED [Bruce] and [Arthur]. [Love you] and miss [you,] Ben[.] WB studio tours just explored the backlot alright. [Busted] on set all great things coming AQUAMAN 2 all my aloha j.“ Along with this, Momoa also shared footage of the tourists on the backlot Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood that “busted” the actors.
The filming of the film was officially done earlier this year, however, this post confirms that the sequel is back at it again and getting some of its essential reshoots done. The reshoots also include scene with Ben Affleck’s Batman, which is interesting. Just before SDCC’22 a source from WB confirmed that they’re not interested to continue with the Snyderverse. However, at SDCC’22 they revealed Shazam!: Fury of the Gods’ trailer that features a shot of Ben Affleck’s Batman.
So is Ben Affleck back as Batman? Is WB actually going ahead with the Snyderverse? For now it seems like Affleck is just getting done with the contract commitments he’d made earlier that includes Flashpoint and the Aquaman sequel. I don’t think so we’ll see Affleck in Shazam 2 or any other DCEU after Flashpoint and Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom. Although, this is just me speculating. It’d be really helpful if WB addresses these questions and issues a proper statement clarifying the same.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom stars Jason Momoa in the lead role of Aquaman and Patrick Wilson as Orm respectively. The sequel will introduce some new faces in the form of Vincent Regan as Atlan, Jani Zhao as Stingray, Indya Moore as Karshon and Pilou Asbæk as an undisclosed character.
