Jason Mamo as Lobo Aquaman

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is the sequel to the 2018 film. Aquaman was directed by James Gunn and the film’s success is much to his credit. The film was good, which is sight for sore eyes when it comes to the DCEU (now DCU). Aquaman at least back then was part of the Snyderverse which included Ben Affleck’s Batman. However, after appearing in Dawn of Justice (2016) and The Justice League, both the theatrical and Snyder Cut, Ben Affleck hung up his cape. DC found a new Batman in Robert Pattinson however, it doesn’t look like he is part of this universe. Even after stepping down from the role, Ben Affleck is supposed to appear as Batman/Bruce Wayne in The Flash releasing next year. And according to many reports in July-August, Affleck was supposed to return as Batman one last time in Aquaman 2, however, it looks like that is not happening anymore.

Jason Momoa to Quit the DCU after Aquaman 2?

Jason Momoa had posted photos with Ben Affleck in late July that hinted that the actor was present on the sets of Aquaman 2 and he’ll have a cameo in the film, this also links with how Affleck is supposed to appear in The Flash along with Michael Keaton’s Batman and others as well. However, it seems like Warner Bros. want nothing to do with Affleck as of now as they’ve cut out his cameo, why? Well, Geeks of Worldwide’s KC Walsh has given us the reason as he attended one of the pre-screenings of the film.

On Twitter, Walsh updated fans on the movie, he addressed Affleck’s cameo but also revealed that Amber Heard’s role remains unchanged but Willem Dafoe’s Vulko didn’t appear in the film as well. Walsh said, “Without spoiling anything I’ll just say they cut a major scene and it appears the Bruce Wayne scene is no longer necessary.” Walsh’s claims were also supported by MyTimeToShineHello, who also attended the pre-screening, the outlet said, “A little update: There was no Bruce in it at all and they changed stuff around so he is no longer necessary to the plot.”

For now we don’t have any updates on Affleck’s cameo in The Flash but the latest update suggests that, that is very much happening. Also, another update has revealed that the new Co-Leads of DC don’t want Jason Momoa to continue as Aquaman. Momoa is supposed to quit DC after Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom as Aquaman, yes that’s right, he will no longer play Aquaman but instead he will continue as Lobo. So, along with all the cancellations and shake-ups this is another one but at least unlike Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot he will still be a part of the DCU.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom stars Jason Momoa in the lead role of Aquaman and Patrick Wilson as Orm respectively. The other cast includes Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Kidman and Randall Park who reprise their roles from the first film as Mera, Nuidis Vulko, King Nereus, Black Manta, Thomas Curry, Atlanna and Dr. Stephen Shin, respectively. The sequel will introduce some new faces in the form of Vincent Regan as Atlan, Jani Zhao as Stingray, Indya Moore as Karshon and Pilou Asbæk as an undisclosed character.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is slated to release on 25th December 2023.
