Jason Momoa has been a central piece in DC’s chessboard called the Snyderverse. He has portrayed the role of the King of the Seven Seas – Aquaman! The film was directed by James Wan who is a fantastic director. He has mostly made his name through the outstanding and genre bending horror films. The film was a rare success in the underwhelming DC universe. Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry was very well received. A sequel was immediately on the table and it will release later this year. However, with all the changes in the DCU it was obvious that Jason Momoa’s future with the studios is uncertain. Gal Gadot, Dwayne Johnson and Henry Cavill have already quit their respective roles so it was interesting to see whether Momoa would bear the same fate or will his destiny be written with a new pen?
Well, it looks like the actor has himself provided us with an update.
Jason Momoa To Stay With DC But As Aquaman or Lobo?
Jason Momoa has taken the internet by storm as he posted a very interesting story on his Instagram account. The story was about Warner Bros. and the actor couldn’t mask his excitement about the news he had to share with the fans. The Aquaman actor said, “Four years ago, I had the jeep out front… Y’all remember four years ago? I was screaming, wasn’t I? … Screaming when I left Warner Bros. Everybody ready? YAHOO! Four years again. It’s a mystery, baby… I’ve got some really good news. Great news with Warner Bros. Amazing.”
Momoa concluded by expressing his love towards the newly appointed DC CEOs Peter Safran and James Gunn, “Wish I could tell you, but here it is. Peter [Safran], I love you. James [Gunn], I love you. David [Zaslav]. Okay. To the future, to the future.” We all know this could be one of two things. First, Momoa becomes the first actor to retain his role in the transition from DCEU to the DCU. Gunn and Safran might’ve informed him that he’ll continue to play Aquaman in their universe. This goes with the things we’ve heard about Gunn-Safran’s plan being more of a broad but not a blank reset. So, Aquaman 3 might well be on the table.
Second, he was just confirmed as Lobo in the new DCU. This goes with what Momoa had teased in the past of playing his dream role of Lobo. It will be interesting to see how Lobo is introduced in this universe. Gunn and Safran could revive the scrapped HBO Max series featuring the Superman villain, considering that The Suicide Squad director already confirmed that he’s writing an unannounced DC TV show. As of now it is very unclear but considering how happy he looks, it might be the first as Lobo sure as hell is a downgrade and wouldn’t have been so excited about it.
DCU’s next movie: Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated to release in theatres on 17th March 2023.
