From the moment it was announced, Black Adam was supposed to revolutionize the DCEU. It was marketed as the Superhero film that the hour needs. Something that we had to see. The movie in my opinion had taken all the right calls, especially cast Dwayne Johnson as the titular character. Given the year that we’ve had where every superhero film has disappointed us except for The Batman, I was really looking forward to this film as I genuinely wanted to be enthralled by a superhero film, like I did when I was 16. I feel sad to say, Black Adam is not that film. It is not a revolution that the DCEU needs. Its quiet simply a film that is self aware and invests heavily in action sequences and doesn’t pay heed to its screenplay which is one of the weakest of the year.
The most disappointing part of the film was Dwayne Johnson himself as I’ve not seen a more one dimensional performance from him before. The film until now has been very successful and I have no reason to think it won’t be going forward. Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate was the absolute highlight of the film followed by Henry Cavill as Superman. Despite having so much riding for it, after only 31 days after its theatrical release, the film has been released on Digital. Why?
Why Did Black Adam Release On Digital So Early?
Black Adam hit theatres on 21st October. The film is is quite nascent and yest Warner Bros. has announced the Digital dates for the film. This move has been made on a budget of $200 Million and until now the film has only gotten back $389 Million. While it has certainly not failed at the box office, it has not generated a huge profit as well. Coupled with this, Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever also released on 11th November and took the world by storm. That definitely affected the collections of the DC film.
After just two weeks of release Wakanda Forever which was made on a budget of at least $250 Million has collected $561 Million after simply two weeks of release. Seeing all this Warner Bros. has decided there is no point of staying in theatres as it clearly is been overshadowed. Warner Bros. revealed that the Dwayne Johnson would be released in digital storefronts on 22nd November 2022. The film will also get a a Blu-ray launch in the New Year on 3rd January 2023. Both the digital release and the Blu-ray disk come packed with special features, though the exact details of those remain unclear at the moment.
