DC or Warner Bros. whatever you call them, they really need a win right now. With all the controversy surrounding Ezra Miller, the cancellation of Batgirl, Shazam 2 and Aquaman 2 pushed to next year and Warner Bros.’ merger with Discovery, it seems like Black Adam is the only movie that is going in its favor. However, because of all the controversies, people’s attention has been diverted from the latest DC flick. Well, to guide them in the right direction, Warner Bros. has been promoting the film with great heart. We got news regarding the film that Black Adam has added some extra post credit scenes. The film features Dwayne Johnson as the titular anti-hero and will showcase his origin story. DC wants this film to do well so when they eventually do make Shazam and Black Adam fight it’ll be a spectacle.
However, I’m unsure what a solo film to a potential villain means. I mean if Black Adam chooses to be the destroyer of the world at the end of the film to make his villainous arc complete, that’s a bummer note to end a film on. Or if they do the opposite where he chooses to be the survivor, why will Shazam and him fight? Shazam is clearly a hero figure. So that’s unclear to me. Black Adam is an adversary of Shazam portrayed by Zachary Levi in 2019’s Shazam. It is quite possible he makes a cameo in the film along with Henry Cavill’s Superman or the entire Justice League, you never know. The film had its premiere today, the lucky critics who got an earlier peak at the film have given us their thoughts. Let’s how did this extremely anticipated film fared.
Is Black Adam the Saving Grace for the DCEU?
DC and Warner Bros. Discovery both want this film to do well and it shows, the way they’ve been promoting it, the amount of creative involvement the Rock has, bringing back Henry Cavill as Superman or possibly having a cameo with the entire Justice League, I if this is not desperate then what is? Me being a DC fan, mostly for Batman and Joker, was also hoping that this film does well so we can finally see some real universe building from DC. Marvel has been disappointing me throughout this year so I am looking for something new.
This film’s success will deciding factor of the DCEU. All the plans of the soft reboot for the franchise would be done if they scope of doing so. So, now knowing that how important this film is let’s see does it live up to the pressure it has to bear. For the most part, yes. According to most of the critics, Black Adam is exactly what you expect it to be and it is great at it. It is very much revitalizing the DCEU and taking it into a new direction. There are some who found it underwhelming but if you hear it from them then that would be better.

#BlackAdam struggles to find its footing at first but once the Justice Society enters it becomes more fun to watch. Dwayne Johnson’s anti-hero presents an intriguing new dynamic to the DCEU. Solid visual effects. Weak villain. Post-credits scene got the biggest reaction of all. pic.twitter.com/qbVmWkYLjv

I have seen #BlackAdam! This was one of my most anticipated films of the year, and it did not disappoint. The action sequences were incredible, especially the ones with the JSA. The Rock crushes it as Black Adam. The film’s end left me with high hopes for the future of the DCEU. pic.twitter.com/vd0Zy35lWT

#BlackAdam is a role @TheRock just thrives in. He’s the ultimate bad-ass as Teth-Adam and the thought of him crossing over with other heroes and villains after this one is awesome. pic.twitter.com/lfaEBPyhG2

#BlackAdam is a solid crowd-pleaser. Lots of spectacle and humor while also actually embracing the DCEU and setting up something very exciting for its future. It doesn’t pull many surprises and feels very familiar at times, but it’s definitely enjoyable popcorn entertainment. pic.twitter.com/grh2W3BMvM

Black Adam is everything that I hoped it would be and more. A Snyder-esque antihero spectacle that delivers big action and impressive set pieces. Dwayne Johnson transforms into Black Adam, a role that he was born to play. Centineo & Swindell are so damn fun to watch. #BlackAdam pic.twitter.com/V1tY0liyph

.@TheRock is terrific in #BlackAdam, which includes a hearty amount of real world touchstones (most affecting is it reinforces the need for heroes in bleak times). Director Juame Collet-Serra lays out building blocks for a larger, grand universe. Action is lively & BIG in scale. pic.twitter.com/pDBkSHRDrI

Had to go through metal detectors for the Black Adam NY screening. Pity it’s bad – no emotional depth, zero sense of peril for the main character and dull CGI battles. #BlackAdam pic.twitter.com/gUjxHy1oUO

DC’s #BlackAdam ROCKS! Tons of action, characters you’re instantly invested in & terrific pacing. Dwayne Johnson finds a great balance in being menacing & badass, but also empathetic. Especially loved Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman & Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate. More JSA movies please! pic.twitter.com/YSCco9zYA3

#BlackAdam is a game-changer!! This is the #DCComics movie I’ve been waiting for & it did not disappoint. @TheRock is electrifyingly brutal as Black Adam! This is what I wanted Black Adam to be. The action in the film is non-stop & seeing the #JSA on the big screen was a thrill! pic.twitter.com/NigTxsfmd7

YouTuber Austin Blake was another critic to praise the film for the spectacle that it is. He said, “Black Adam is a MASSIVE DC outing. The action is brutal, and Dwayne Johnson delivers on his promise of shifting the DCEU in a different direction. The story itself is up and down, as certain scenes don’t pack the intended punch… Although there are moments that fans will LOVE”
The Direct’s Russ Milheim was one of the few critics I came across that didn’t find the film DC’s saving grace. He said, “Sadly, Black Adam isn’t the success WB needed. It’s filled with clunky exposition, has a forgettable villain, and feels like it’s just going through the motions. Dr. Fate was easily the best part, but Atom Smasher falls flat. There’s some fun, but overall, it’s forgettable.”
Vox’s Alex Abads sounds like he is love with the film. He said, “Black Adam works in many ways — a Dwayne Johnson and Pierce Brosnan charm offensive; Aldis Hodge oozing charisma: Centineo and Swindell’s chemistry — but the script’s inconsistent internal logic lets them down in a lot of spots”
Gizmondo’s Germain Lussier called the film a surprisingly fun time. He said, “Black Adam is a worthy new piece of the DC puzzle, but not the savior it promised. A surprising compressed timeline keeps the action exciting & pace propulsive, but also turns its many (many) themes, plots, & characters into fancy window dressing. It’s messy in a watchable way.”
