We are well into January now neither James Gunn not Peter Safran have given us any updates on the upcoming DCU slate. Gunn had mentioned many times in the last year after being appointed as the new DC Co-head that Safran and him are developing a new 8-10 year plan for the DCU, just like what Kevin Feigi does for Marvel. A part of the slate was supposed to be announced in January 2023. However, they’ve not announced it yet. The limited amount that we know about this slate is that there is a Superman film currently in the works. Superman might well be the central character of this universe, just like Snyderverse. As the new DCU is being constructed, there are for sure a lot of roles which need to be filled and who better to do that then Gunn’s best mates from his other jobs. I’m talking about Chris Pratt led Guardians of the Galaxy. As Vol. 3 will be the final film for all the Guardians members, they won’t be working for Marvel again. So, does that mean these members might join the newly built DCU?
Chris Pratt and Other Guardians Cast To Join DC?
When James Gunn switched to DC for The Suicide Squad his DC collaborators Chukwudi Iwuji and Daniela Melchior both came along for the ride. So, it was only natural that the filmmaker is asked whether his other Marvel companions from the Guardians films would join him in his DC mission? In a recent interview with Empire, James Gunn who is Co-head of the DCU and director of the Guardians of Galaxy franchise was asked about whether we’ll see the Guardians actors in the DCU someday.
Gunn once again reacted extremely candidly and listed out various mates and hinted that this rumor might be true after all. Of course he didn’t officially say anything but his cryptic message in his statement makes it clear. Gunn said, “This cast are like my family. I cannot tell you how close I am to Chris Pratt and Pom [Klementieff] and Dave [Bautista] and Zoe [Saldaña] and Karen [Gillan]. But I also know I will work again with all those people individually again. Probably at my other job.”
DCU’s next movie: Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated to release in theatres on 17th March 2023.
