Wonder Woman is weirdly the best superhero film that was produced in Zack Snyder’s DCEU. Man of Steel is a close second. Patty Jenkins’ 2017 venture was loved by audiences and critics alike. There is no DC Extended Universe film that matches its simple complexity. It was the highest earning female superhero film until Black Panther: Wakanda Forever crossed its earning last year. However, one might argue that Wakanda Forever was an established thanks to Chadwick Boseman and the collection was a sign of tribute to him, so Wonder Woman still emerges as a winner. As much as one can rave about Wonder Woman, the less one can talk about Wonder Woman 1984. A sequel that failed its predecessor in every way.
After the failure of the sequel, Warner Bros. Discovery was cautious about the threequel and therefore, didn’t approve Patty Jenkins’ pitch. As the filmmaker was not co-operative the studio ultimately cancelled the third film. Which raised one question in the minds of many fans – will Gal Gadot continue as Wonder Woman in James Gunn’s DCU?
Does Gal Gadot Have A Future In The New DC?
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Gal Gadot was asked about her future as Wonder Woman in James Gunn’s DCU. While the actress didn’t confirm or deny anything, she did cryptically suggested that she is not out yet. Gadot teased, “Things are being worked behind the scenes and once the right moment arrives, you’ll know about it.” Just a few days Gadot mentioned in an interview that she felt empowered after the cancellation of Wonder Woman as it gave her more opportunities.
Just before Warner Bros. Discovery Gal Gadot expressed her gratitude to all her fans with an Instagram post, “A few years ago it was announced that I was going to play Wonder Woman. I’ve been so grateful for the opportunity to play such an incredible, iconic character and more than anything I’m grateful for YOU. The fans. Can’t wait to share her next chapter with you.” Despite the cancellation, many reports have made it clear that the studio is interested to producer Wonder Woman 3 without original director Patty Jenkins.
Gal Gadot reprised her role as the Amazonian Warrior in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and most recently The Flash. Wonder Woman is not the part of James Gunn’s Chapter One of DCU. So, it is possible that Gal Gadot might return as the character in Chapter Two or she might continue journey as a Elseworlds storyline like Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker or Robert Pattinson’s Batman.
