DC is in the weirdest spot it has ever been in history. The shake-ups that have been going on be that Walter Hamada’s firing, Accusations surrounding Ezra Miller, Batgirl’s cancellation, Peter Safran and James Gunn’s appointment as New Heads, Cancellations of projects like Wonder Woman 3 and Man of Steel 2. Really Warner Bros. is in a huge mess when it comes to managing its asset called DC which has become more of a liability. However, Warner Bros. wants to make amends as they’re ready to start anew, however for that they’d have to start by finding someone who can have that singular, defining vision for their cinematic universe. Basically, their Kevin Feigi and as we’re aware they did indeed find that person or rather persons as Warner Bros. announced Peter Safran and James Gunn as Co-Heads.
The duo will lead the DCU in its future and they’d start that making a ten year plan. However, it looks like Warner Bros. search for someone to helm their cinematic universe wasn’t easy one as they literally knocked on every door in Hollywood before finally handing out the jobs to James Gunn and Peter Safran. One of the most high profile names who had been offered the job of becoming the DC head was Joker and Joker 2’s writer-director Todd Phillips.
DC – Warner Bros. Had Begged Todd Phillips To Take The Job!
According to a recent report from the New York Post, Warner Bros’s first choice for their new head was not James Gunn or Peter Safran. At first, Warner Bros. only wanted one man on the job like the MCU until finally dividing the workload into two. Director Todd Phillips who has made his name due to his critically acclaimed and mega blockbuster standalone film Joker was the original pick for the role now taken by James Gunn. An unnamed insider revealed that, “The whole town turned the job down… It was almost Todd Phillips. They begged him.”
The insider also revealed that before Gunn eventually took the role for DC, Warner Bros, knocked every door in Hollywood but no one wanted to take up the job given the messy situation Warner Bros. has found itself in. The horror stories that surround Warner Bros. management has made every major figure in Hollywood to keep safe distance for them so, agreeing to take up their most prone to loss asset is a huge commitment. That too for at least 4 years if not more. This report tells us how desperate Warner Bros. really was.
DCU’s next movie: Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated to release in theatres on 17th March 2023.
