Basically, DCEU (now DCU) wanted their own Kevin Feigi and after months of search they finally appointed James Gunn and Peter Safran as the new heads of DC after they fired Walter Hamada. Even after months, the duo were silent as they didn’t make any big changes, however, that changed last week as the duo in order to make their plan for DC cancelled many projects that were in development, including Wonder Woman 3 and Man of Steel 2. Fans were very naturally upset, however, there was a band of fans which demanded Gunn and Safran to release their new slate of DC movies and it looks like we will get that very soon. Before that, in a latest heartbreaking development, Henry Cavill has now officially been removed as Superman (Read more here).
DC New Slate of Movies Coming Very Soon?
James Gunn as we all know is very vocal about his movies and announces a lot of stuff on his Twitter handle or whenever he makes an appearance. So, just like that Gunn has now made some major announcements that give us an idea of the new slate of DC movies and when will the official slate be out. So, in a Tweet Gunn announced that he and Safran have a slate of DC movies ready and more then that he revealed which Superman is the first one to be appearing in the new DCU. Gunn said:
“Peter & I have a DC slate ready to go, which we couldn’t be more over-the-moon about; we’ll be able to share some exciting information about our first projects at the beginning of the new year.” Gunn also, provided some plot details about the new Superman movie. He said,“Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.”
Along with these details, Variety also reported that the new Superman movie will see our Man of Steel as a cub reporter in Metropolis and cross paths with key Superman characters, Lois Lane included. Also, Gunn has not cancelled the J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehsi Coates’ Untitled Superman project that is still in active development. In another tweet Gunn revealed that he has also had a conversation with with Ben Affleck who was DC’s Batman in the Snyder era. Gunn revealed that he wants Affleck to be involved in the new DCU.
Gunn said, “Met with Ben yesterday precisely because he wants to direct & we want him to direct; we just have to find the right project.”
DCU’s next movie: Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated to release in theatres on 17th March 2023.
