Another day, another cancellation. Well that is how it looks like if you’re working with Warner Bros. Discovering. Amidst all the changes that are going on at DC, the other departments at Warner Bros. seem to also face the burn. I don’t know how much the merger with Discovery has helped and how much is actually backfiring. After a lot of cancellations last year, Warner Bros. have claimed another two victims in the new year and they happen to be the fan favorite DC shows Doom Patrol and Titans. However, unlike others Warner Bros. is allowing both the shows one season to wrap up their narratives and have an end instead of an abrupt cancellation. Many are speculating this is because of the new direction that James Gunn and Peter Safran are taking.
This is common nowadays, anything that goes wrong at DC it is because of Gunn and Safran. I get why this is happening but just because they’re Co-Heads of DC Studios doesn’t mean everything is there fault. After the news of both shows surfaced, angry fans were quick to target Gunn and Safran and criticize their decisions. However, James Gunn has offered an explanation to clear the air around him.
Doom Patrol and Titans Cancelled – IT IS NOT JAMES GUNN’S FAULT!
The decision to end both the shows was not taken by James Gunn or because of James Gunn. This has been made abundantly clear by multiple sources. In fact James Gunn himself offered a clarification on the matter when a fan accused him for the ending of both the shows. Check out the Tweet below:
The decision to end the series precedes us. But I certainly wish the best for the talented group of creators, actors, and the rest of the crew that produced both shows. https://t.co/jdqDc9TqU1

The Hollywood Reporter while breaking the news confirmed that the decision to end the show was taken before the appointment of Gunn and Safran as the new DC Heads. Both the shows were given this news, so that they could write their final season with a proper ending.
“While these will be the final seasons of Titans and Doom Patrol, we are very proud of these series and excited for fans to see their climactic endings,” an HBO Max spokesperson said in a statement. “We are grateful to Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television for making such thrilling, action-packed, heartfelt series. We thank Titans showrunner Greg Walker, executive producers Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Richard Hatem, and the team at Weed Road Pictures. For Doom Patrol, we celebrate showrunner Jeremy Carver and executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, Chris Dingess and Tamara Becher-Wilkinson. For four seasons, fans have fallen in love with the Titans and Doom Patrol, investing in their trials and tribulations, and in their legendary battles saving the world time and time again.”
Writer and Producer Jeremy Carver also released a statement as the show is coming to an end, “To our wonderfully supportive partners at HBO Max, Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and DC Studios, thank you for indulging us these past four seasons,” Carver said. “Also, what were you smoking? To our brilliant cast, indomitable crew, fearless writing staff and, most of all, to our beautiful fans: thank you all the more. You made this a once-in-a-lifetime ride.”
