Joaquin Phoenix is already returning for the role that earned him is long awaited Oscar. Joker: Folie à Deux is the sequel that is supposed to take place after the events of the first film. If I was asked honestly, nothing in the first film was shouting for a sequel. It was an average film with a brilliant performance from Phoenix. Was it the best on-screen portrayal of Joker- No. It is still Heath Ledger. However, the sequel is not a very conventional. It is different and quirky. To start with it is a musical and there is a huge possibility that rather than just being a sequel it is more of a spin-off for Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn. There are many reports stating that the film will be through her point of view. Gaga’s casting in the sequel is in my opinion a stroke of genius.
Considering how different and fresh the sequel is sounding in comparison to the first film, I’m undoubtedly excited for it. The filming has already begun and Phillips has even shared the first look of Phoenix on set. Seeing this many Lady Gaga fans were chiseled and demanded her first look as well. However, Phillips clarified that she is not supposed to start filming until next year which is- now. As we approach the end of the first month of 2023, it looks like Lady Gaga has finally started shooting for the sequel.
Lady Gaga Shares A Picture To Confirm Filming For Joker: Folie à Deux!
On Instagram, the famous singer shared a new selfie of herself assuring her fans that she is on set and starting filming soon. The selfie has herself with a bouquet of flowers which is supposed to be in celebration of her Academy Award nomination for the original song Hold My Hand, which Lady Gaga sang and produced. The song featured in Top Gun: Maverick. Gaga gave a shout to her fans referring to them as “little monsters”. We still haven’t gotten a first look of her in costume on the actual set.
However, at least we have the confirmation that she has begun filming, which naturally means that there would be some set photos which are inevitable to be leaked. Check out the post shared by the actress-singer:
Joker 2’s storyline is supposed to surround the infamous Arkham Asylum. We got glimpses of the Arkham Asylum in the last film as well. In the end, Joaquin’s Arthur Fleck was seen being treated in Arkham Asylum for him mental illness. The last scene saw Fleck murdering the doctor who was treated him and being chased by guards in the Arkham Asylum. According to The Wrap, the sequel will feature a lot more of Gotham’s mental health facility and there is a possibility that Harley Quinn played Lady Gaga might him in the facility itself.
As I’d said before the title “Folie à Deux” means a type of mental illness shared between two close people. Where can Joaquin’s Arthur Fleck find someone who shares a similar mental illness as him? Well his best bet would the Arkham Asylum. Both characters can find comfort in each and other as they’d empathize.
The first Joker movie featured an incredible ensemble cast that included Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, Shea Whigham, Bill Camp, and Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne. Let me know your thoughts on these latest updates. Are you excited for Joker 2? What do you think a comic book musical movie be like?
