After nearly four years we’re getting a sequel to the most successful R-Rated film of all time. Joker was made on a budget of $70 million and it grossed over $1.07 billion. After Heath Ledger’s immortal performance as the Clown Prince of Crime in 2008, this was the best iteration of the character. However, I still feel like the film was more of a Arthur Fleck movie than a Joker movie. Todd Phillips wrote and directed the film. After I watched the film, I didn’t feel like there was anything left of the story. However, it was either Todd Phillips who felt like there is more story to tell or it was the astronomical success of the film that has spawned a sequel. Although, it looks like it is not a generic follow-up story. Firstly, it is a musical. Yes, a comic book movie musical, never thought I’d see that.
On top of that it is supposedly told from Harley Quinn’s perspective which makes it more enticing and with Lady Gaga’s inclusion in the film, this is a sequel to be excited about. A while back, the shooting of Joker 2: Folie à Deux had begun and we’d gotten our first look of Phoenix. Fans were dying to see Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn but a first look eluded us for quite some time until today.
Joker 2 – Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn First as Look Unveiled!
After Joaquin’s first look many fans were demanding for Gaga’s look and Phillips gave an explanation that the famous actress/singer hasn’t started filming yet. She will begin shooting after New Year’s. A BTS photo had revealed that Gaga had started filming around 24th January 2023 and Just after 2 weeks we have our first look. On Valentines Day, yesterday, we got the first look of the most twisted love story we will witness next year on the big screen. Todd Phillips posted this new still from his upcoming DC Elseworlds movie on Instagram.
This still reveals the first ever look of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. The still has her in the frame with Joaquin’s Joker. Joaquin is in his Joker avatar, with his make-up and everything. He has an expression of awe and love in his eyes. Gaga on the other hand looks more like in shock and awe. It seems like they’ve just kissed as there are red marks on her lips which might have been remains of Joaquin’s make-up after sharing a passionate lip lock. She has her hands clasped around his neck and face. Take a look at the first look yourself:
Joker 2’s storyline is supposed to surround the infamous Arkham Asylum. We got glimpses of the Arkham Asylum in the last film as well. In the end, Joaquin’s Arthur Fleck was seen being treated in Arkham Asylum for him mental illness. The last scene saw Fleck murdering the doctor who was treated him and being chased by guards in the Arkham Asylum. According to The Wrap, the sequel will feature a lot more of Gotham’s mental health facility and there is a possibility that Harley Quinn played Lady Gaga might him in the facility itself.
As I’d said before the title “Folie à Deux” means a type of mental illness shared between two close people. Where can Joaquin’s Arthur Fleck find someone who shares a similar mental illness as him? Well his best bet would the Arkham Asylum. Both characters can find comfort in each and other as they’d empathize.
The first Joker movie featured an incredible ensemble cast that included Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, Shea Whigham, Bill Camp, and Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne. Let me know your thoughts on these latest updates. Are you excited for Joker 2? What do you think a comic book musical movie be like?
