According to a new report, Zack Snyder’s Justice League has disbanded. In 2017’s Justice League superhero team of Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), and the Flash (Ezra Miller) united for the first and last time. With DC Studios CEOS and Co-Chairmen James Gunn and Peter Safran ushering in their new DC Universe starting with Superman: Legacy. Variety reports, the actors cast by Snyder will not be reprising their original roles.
“Nothing is canon until [DC Studios animated series] Creature Commandos next year — a sort of aperitif to the DCU — & then a deeper dive into the universe with Superman: Legacy after that,” Gunn wrote. “It’s a very human drive to want to understand everything all the time, but I think its okay to be confused on what’s happening in the DCU since no one has seen anything from the DCU yet.” Gunn continued, “And, yes, some actors will be playing characters they’ve played in other stories & some plot points might be consistent with plot points from the dozens of films, shows & animated projects that have come from DC in the past. But nothing is canon until [Creature Commandos] and Legacy.”
Justice League Actors on James Gunn’s New DC Universe
According to Variety, in Gunn’s potential standalone Lobo movie or Superman movie, Jason Momoa is in talks to Lobo, not Aquaman. The report also disputes rumor that Gal Gadot will continue to play Wonder Woman in an untitled Wonder Woman 3.
Replacing Cavill, Gunn has already cast David Corenswet as younger Man of Steel in Superman: Legacy. Before the DC chiefs confirmed new actor for Batman in The Brave and the Bold, Affleck announced his Dark Knight retirement. Fisher clashed with the former Warner Bros. and Joss Whedon. Miller is not expected to return as Barry Allen after the box office flop of The Flash and string of abuse and arrest allegations.
Actors who will carry over into the DCU include Viola Davis (The Suicide Squad) as Amanda Waller, Xolo Maridueña (Blue Beetle) as Jaime Reyes, and John Cena (Peacemaker) as Christopher Smith.
