Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods is the sequel to the 2019 film Shazam! The film is directed by David F. Sandberg who helmed the original film as well. The film is based on DC’s character Shazam! named after the wizard. The character was previously known as Captain Marvel. The 2019 film was a rare diamond in DC’s collection of coals. The film amassed critical acclaim as well as collected huge numbers at the Box Office. Shazam! was praised for its fresh take on the exhausted Superhero genre. Seeing the success of the original film, WB greenlit a sequel. They were not planning to change the main ingredients of the first film. The film was delayed due to the pandemic but as the pandemic has ceased to exist, the film picked up pace. Now, for a while we were getting teases for the new film.
Including a fake trailer for the film by Zachary Levi, the lead actor of the film. However, as Comic Con 2022 nears, we were sure that WB was simply holding the film’s trailer so as to give fans the delight of watching it at SDCC’22, As promised, Warner Bros. did reveal a trailer for the film today at Comic Con.
Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods looks Epic!
The film’s trailer looks absolutely lovely but it is confusing as well. As all the cast from the first film is returning we see all of them. The children have grown up quite a bit as they’re returning after three years. Everyone looks significantly older. The confusing part is, an executive producer from DC had confirmed that WB has no further plans to extend the Snyderverse. However, the film’s trailer features a scene where Shazam! compares his abilities and suit to all the other DC superheroes.
Even the ones who are being replaced, like Batman played by Ben Affleck and Superman played by Henry Cavil. So does that mean Snyderverse is still going on? Or are they just ignoring this. I would like a clarification on this. Other than that we see that Shazam’s suit has gotten a much needed upgrade. The suit looks much better than the original, the VFX of the film is much better as well. We also see the return of the Wizard named Shazam! played by Djimon Hounsou.
The film features an ensemble cast including Zachary Levi as Shazam, Adam Brody as Super Hero, Freddy Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, Marta Milans as Rosa Vasquez, Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Meagan Good as Superhero, Darla Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley and Michelle Borth as Superhero Mary. Other cast includes Djimon Hounsou as Wizard Shazam!, Rachel Zegler as Athena, Lucy Liu as Kalypso and Helen Mirren as Hespera.

Apart from the above confusion, the trailer looks amazing. The budget of the film has definitely bumped up. The trailer features everything you’d expect. The film is no doubt bigger than the previous one, it has maintained the fun vibe of the original film. Let’s hope the film as good as the trailer.
