Suicide Squad: James Gunn May Release 'The Ayer Cut'!

Today we’ll talk about Suicide Squad not The Suicide Squad. Got the difference? No. That’s what I thought. DC really should’ve thought this through. Well, ‘Suicide Squad’, directed by David Ayer was released in 2016. It was DCEU’s third entry after Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film had terrible reviews but did superb at the box office – $746 million worldwide on a budget of $175 million. The critical scrutiny that the film went through was considered to be the director’s fault but Ayer since publicly stated that the flaws of the film were due to Warner Bros’ constant meddling with the film’s cut. Since then, DC fans have been demanding an ‘Ayer cut’ of Suicide Squad to be released just like Justice League’s Snyder Cut.

Unlike the overwhelming support for the Snyder Cut, the Ayer Cut’s protest never got so big. However, as James Gunn has taken DC’s office now, director David Ayer believes that the new DC boss might release the long awaited Ayer cut.

Suicide Squad ‘The Ayer Cut’ May Release Soon!

The Nerd Rage Podcast shared an image of Jared Leto’s Joker on X (formerly known as Twitter), which had the caption: “Not to call out David by saying this, but you do know this was released back in 2016, right?” This sarcastic remark got a response from director David Ayer where he claimed that Gunn, one of two new heads of DC’s live-action film production, told him that his original cut may soon see the light of day. In part, he said in an X post, “All I know is my unseen film plays much better than the studio release. The interest in my cut being [shown] seems real and organic. And Gunn told me it would have [its] time to be shared.”
