Superman: Legacy is DC’s final attempt start a thriving coherent live action cinematic universe that can potentially end Marvel’s monopoly when it comes to the superhero genre. This might be the perfect time to take Marvel down as the studio is at its weakest given the numerous lawsuits against its actors and the creative limbo that Marvel has been post the pandemic. The first film to kick-off James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU is Superman: Legacy and until now the James Gunn directorial hasn’t put a foot wrong. There are two major updates about the David Corenswet starrer and both just prove that this production is heading in the right direction.
Superman: Legacy Won’t Have Batman!
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that the character of Supergirl will appear in the upcoming Superman: Legacy and two famous TV actors are currently in the running for the role. Yes, this does confirm that Sasha Calle won’t return as Supergirl ever again, her first and last appearance was in The Flash.
The two actors who have screen tested for Supergirl in Atlanta are Milly Alcock who played Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon and American Housewife’s Meg Donnelly. There has been no update on whether or not any of these actors have gotten the part. Personally, I’ll love to see Alcock as Supergirl, she has proved her talent in her short time in HOTD.
I’ve not seen Donnelly’s work, so I can’t comment. Apart from this, James Gunn has also confirmed that Batman won’t appear in Superman: Legacy despite the rumors. There are many other superheroes in the film, but Batman won’t be one of them. I think this is a good thing. Both heroes are precious and I think both of them should get their own movies to introduce them despite being in the same universe.
Once that is done then there is a lot of time for Gunn to have crossover. One of the problems with Zack Snyder’s DCEU was the creator’s obsession with introducing a buttload of superheroes in one film that doesn’t given time to any of them. Looks like DC is learning from its mistakes and finally heading in the right direction.
David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Maria Gabriela de Faria as Angela Spica/The Engineer, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific/Michael Holt, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern/Guy Gardener and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho/Rex Mason.
Superman: Legacy is the first movie in the new DC slate and is supposed to release on 11th July 2025.
