The Batman Part II

The Batman: Part II is part of DCU’s Elseworlds franchise. The sequel is set to start principal photography in November 2023 at Warner Bros. Discovery in Leavesden Studios in England. The original film was also shot there so it makes sense why the sequel would return to the production studio. We don’t know anything much about The Batman 2. Despite teasing Barry Keoghan’s Joker in the first film, Matt Reeves has said that he isn’t sure whether the Clown Prince of Crime would be the primary antagonist in the sequel. There might be another villain in the film and Joker might play a larger role in the Batman franchise which includes spin-off shows. While we may not know anything about the sequel’s story but we certainly know who is going to shoot it.

The Batman 2: Grieg Fraser Returns!

Director Matt Reeves recently made an appearance on the Team Deakins podcast hosted by Roger and James Deakins. Reeves confirmed the return of Grieg Fraser to The Batman: Part II as the cinematographer. Fraser served as the Director of Photography for the first Batman movie as well and I don’t need to tell you what a fantastic job he had done. However, despite the magnificent visuals of the film, the Academy failed to recognized Fraser’s talent and didn’t nominate him last year.

Although, Fraser is already the receiver of Best Cinematography for his 2021 spectacle called Dune: Part One. Yes, if you gorged on the outstanding visuals of Dune now you know whom praise. The talented DOP is also returning for Dune: Part Two which will release this year in November and if the trailer is any indication, the sequel is a level above the first one. Please note that these are not Fraser’s only achievements as he has shot three episodes of The Mandalorian, Vice, Zero Dark Thirty, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and many more.

Not to forget Lion (2016). Despite being a drama the film was able to produce some of the most riveting frames I’ve seen. His addition to the sequel definitely is a big plus in the visual department. I hope The Batman: Part II looks as good as the first one if not better.

The Batman is reported to spawn a spin-off series which will focus on the Arkham Asylum. The series recently brought on board Antonio Campos who directed The Devil All The Time as its showrunner, hinting that the series is in early development just like the other villain spin-off movies. Three movies are rumored to surround around Professor Pyg, Scarecrow, and Clayface and are reportedly in the early stages of development. As a result, these projects could premiere after The Batman 2 at the earliest.

The Batman is available for streaming Amazon Prime Video. The Penguin spin-off series doesn’t have a release date at the time of writing but The Batman 2 will release in theatres near you on 3rd October 2025.
