After Snyderverse didn’t work, we couldn’t see Batfleck. Ben Affleck might be one of the best castings as the caped crusader simply because how good he looked in the Batsuit. It is a sad thing we couldn’t get to see more of his version on the big screen. It is good that he will be making his final appearance in The Flash. However, as there was no active live action version of Batman on the big screen which DC’s most profitable superhero, naturally they couldn’t let this happened and another iteration of the Batman. Matt Reeves was at the centre of affairs as he made his version of Gotham and Batman starring Robert Pattinson. The Batman was the best superhero film of 2022. It was a financial success in a time where theatres weren’t doing well. Made on a budget of $185-$200 million the film grossed $770 million worldwide.
The critical and financial success of the film spawned a sequel but due to all the changes happening at Warner Bros. Discovery there was no concrete update about the sequel. However, as James Gunn announced DC’s new slate we finally got an update that the sequel would come out in 2025. Today, we have another update regarding when will the film start shooting.
The Batman 2 Will Filming Begin Soon!
The Batman: Part II is part of DCU’s Elseworlds franchise. The sequel is set to start filming very soon. According to Production Weekly, The Batman: Part II is all set to start principal photography in November 2023 at Warner Bros. Discovery in Leavesden Studios in England. The original film was also shot there so it makes sense why the sequel would return to the production studio. Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios have yet to confirm the report. We don’t know anything much about Batman 2.
Despite teasing Barry Keoghan’s Joker in the first film, Matt Reeves has said that he isn’t whether the Clown Prince of Crime would be the primary antagonist in the sequel. There might be another villain in the film and Joker might play a larger role in the Batman franchise which includes spin-off shows. During the press tour for The Batman, several cast members talked about their interest in seeing the Court of Owls come to the franchise. Fans might see Robert Pattinson’s cameo as Bruce Wayne or Batman in the upcoming Penguin show.
The Batman is reported to spawn other spin-off series as well and they will focus on the Arkham Asylum. The series recently brought on board Antonio Campos who directed The Devil All The Time as its showrunner, hinting that the series is in early development just like the other villain spin-off movies. Three movies are rumored to surround around Professor Pyg, Scarecrow, and Clayface and are reportedly in the early stages of development. As a result, these projects could premiere after The Batman 2 at the earliest.
The Batman is available for streaming Amazon Prime Video. The Penguin spin-off series doesn’t have a release date at the time of writing but The Batman 2 will release in theatres near you on 3rd October 2025.
