The Flash: Why Didn't Christian Bale Appear As Batman

The Flash aka the first solo live-action flick for the speedster. Everyone was excited for this film. Especially because of the dry run DC has had with their current releases. The Flash was amidst a lot of controversy before it even got to production thanks to Ezra Miller. However, DC finally put everything under the rug and decided to release The Flash. However, this decision was not random. They definitely had a plan. Before the film released Warner Bros. ran an entire promotional campaign for the film that didn’t feel like one at all. They asked almost everyone they could to praise the film. I mean Stephen King, Tom Cruise and even their CEO David Zaslav called Flash one of the best superhero film ever. There were comparisons drawn to Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. Well, when the film released all the cards were out.

The film had nothing extraordinary about it except for the ton of cameos. However, there too they missed out on one of the best ones. Fans were shocked to find that Christian Bale doesn’t appear in the film. Why did DC didn’t involve him? Let’s find out.

The Flash: DC Was Desperate To Get Christian Bale!

Well, as it turns out DC always wanted to Christian Bale it is just that they couldn’t get him to come back. Movie director and superhero aficionado Kevin Smith recently spoke on Christian Bale’s missing cameo in The Flash. Smith apparently has an idea why Bale missed out. Spoiler alert, it was on purpose. During a recent live recording of the filmmaker’s podcast Fat Man and Beyond, Kevin Smith expressed his thoughts on Bale’s absence from the film despite each Batman version being included. Smith had said:

“I think there’s a world where they hadn’t shot that until, like, fucking two weeks ago. It feels like they were like ‘It could be anybody,’ and I’m sure they were asking Christian Bale for, like, months and months hoping that he’d break down, and he was like ‘No.’ So they’re like ‘Alright, let’s pivot, let’s do another Batman.’ And they just grabbed George Clooney.”

It is certainly an interesting theory but it is important to note that these comments are simply a theory and no factual evidences have been formed. Even Smith clarified this in a Twitter post, “What’s missing from this ‘Fat Man Beyond’ clip is when I said ‘I think there’s a world’ and ‘It feels like’. It was just conjecture, not inside information. Here’s an actually credible The Hollywood Reporter article by Borys Kit about how that cameo was shot 6 months ago:”

Andres Muschietti (IT) will helm The Flash, and Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey, Batgirl) will pen the story. Additionally, it will feature the Bruce Wayne/Batman characters played by Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton, as well as Sasha Calle as Supergirl, Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Ron Livingston as Henry Allen, Maribel Verdu as Nora Allen, Ian Loh as a young Barry Allen, and Saoirse-Monica Jackson and Rudy Mancuso in unspecified roles.
