Last year wasn’t the best one for Marvel. Unlike 2021, no Marvel film crossed the $1 billion milestone despite having some big names attached to it. The budget of these films are inversely opposite to their quality. Despite releasing around the air of uncertainty in the post pandemic world, Spider-Man: No Way Home became the highest grossing film of 2021 and was the highest grossing film post pandemic until Avatar: The Way of Water passed its lifetime collection last week. Sadly, since No Way Home Marvel films have failed to do exceedingly well. Multiverse of Madness ended its run at $955 Million although it was projected to earn much more, Thor: Love and Thunder couldn’t even manage to surpass Ragnarok with only $760 Million.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is still playing in some theatres has grossed $839 Million*. The films have not been rendered financial losses and that is purely because of the strong fan base that Marvel has acquired over the years. However, with last year, Phase 4 ended as well. Marvel has a clean slate to start this year and Phase 5 with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Let’s see what the new Marvel film is projected to earn in the upcoming weeks.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Heading Towards A Solid Opening!
According to analysts, the Ant-Man threequel will earn anything around $96 Million to $131 Million over the opening weekend domestically. On the other hand, the film’s final domestic collection will be $249 Million to $347 Million. This is a significant jump from the previous two Ant-Man films. Ant-Man earned $57.2 Million while Ant-Man and the Wasp earned $75.8 Million. Quantumania will mark a 130% jump from the first Ant-Man film while a 70% jump from the sequel.
The Ant-Man franchise has followed a similar trend like other Marvel franchises such as Thor. 2011’s Thor: The Dark World had opened to a $85.7 Million while Thor: Ragnarok jumped up to $122.7 Million. Ragnarok also earned $315 Million (domestic total) which is in the same ballpark as Quantumania’s predicted figure. The Thor franchise could be the best facsimile for the Ant-Man films. Iron Man 3 saw a 130% jump from Iron Man 2’s opening weekend- $174 Million. Captain America: Civil War had a 188% bigger opening than Captain America: The Winter Soldier- $179 Million, although this you can also consider the aftermath of the Avengers effect.
Unlike the two other the threequel is much more important and decisive in the Multiverse saga. We will get our first look at Kang the Conqueror in this film. Quantumania will also directly tie into Avengers 5, all these facts would certainly work in the film’s favor and take its box office collections higher, at least more than the previous Ant-Man films. Peyton Reed has once again returned to direct threequel, he has directed all the Ant-Man films for the MCU.
The core cast of the Ant-Man franchise including Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly and Michael Douglas are returning. Along with these regulars, the supporting cast of the film has added Kathryn Newton, Jonathan Majors, Bill Murray and Michelle Pfeiffer.
