Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the first film of Marvel’s phase 5 and it is reportedly important than any other Ant-Man movie in the past as it will directly connect Avengers 5 or Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. This makes a lot of sense as Kang the Conqueror not He who remains that we saw in Loki but the Conqueror will make his first appearance in this movie. The film is once again directed by franchise veteran Peyton Reed who has directed all the Ant-Man films for the MCU. The cast of course includes Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly and Michael Douglas who have since become the face of the franchise. Along with these regulars, the supporting cast has Kathryn Newton, Jonathan Majors, Bill Murray and Michelle Pfeiffer. After a string of disappointing movies from the MCU, I hope Quantumania thrives.

Although, I say this for every upcoming MCU release and every time I return disappointed. Maybe Paul Rudd is the savior of the MCU after all. The film’s first trailer was unveiled last year and it certainly was like any other MCU movie trailer, extremely engaging. For sometime, I think Marvel is making better trailers than movies. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the best example, the trailers were amazing but the film well, quite forgettable. Regardless, today’s update about the film is I think is in the positive direction as Quantumania’s runtime is finally revealed and it happens to be the longest Ant-Man movie yet.

Why Is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania So Long?

Fandango has listed Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s runtime and it is longer than every Ant-Man movie that we’ve gotten in the past. The film will be running for 2 hours 5 minutes. For comparison, Marvel’s Ant-Man that released way back in 2015 had a runtime of only 1 hour and 57 minutes and its sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp that released three years later in 2018 ran for 1 hour 58 minutes. This goes with the trend of MCU threequels to be longer than both the previous films.

Iron Man and Iron Man 2’s runtimes were topped by Iron Man 3 at 2 hours and 10 minutes. The Captain America films followed suit as evidenced by Captain America: Civil War’s 2 hours and 27 runtime. Same goes with other films like Avengers: Infinity War, Thor: Ragnarok, and Spider-Man: No Way Home which are longer than their franchise’s previous films. For reference, the following is a list of runtimes of the latest MCU films from 2022:

  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: 2 hours, 6 minutes
  • Thor: Love and Thunder: 1 hour, 59 minutes
  • Black Panther: Wakanda Forever: 2 hours, 41 minutes

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s exclusive look trailer will be unveiled on ESPN at some point during the National College Football Championship game on Monday, January 9, which starts at 7:30 pm EST.
