Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

The last Marvel film of 2022 that we’re getting is perhaps the best we could’ve wished for given the year that Marvel movies and TV shows have had – Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever. So naturally we were expecting there is a lot of buzz around the filming given the special circumstances of the film as well. Until some months back everyone at Marvel was lip-sealed about the film until we finally got a teaser trailer for the film and since then we’re just bracing ourselves for the spectacle that is about to come. The teaser was so emotional and handcrafted with love and care. A month later we got the official full length trailer of the film which was an explosive ride. It chucked out the somber and cerebral feel and tone of the teaser and went for a more action-heavy adventure with vivid colors.

Needless, to say both trailers were amazing and the film already looks way better than any Marvel content that we’ve gotten this year. I have full faith in Coogler to provide us with an emotional, heartbreaking, layered and old school Marvel film. Since the film was addressing T’Challa’s death and not recasting Chadwick Boseman, we all were wondering who will take the mantle of Black Panther of Wakanda. There were many theories surrounding the same, some even being as crazy as Shuri resurrecting Killmonger and him taking over as Black Panther as a threat looms over Wakanda. However, the trailers and promotional footages almost confirm that Shuri is the next Black Panther. Ryan Coogler did the impossible as he re-wrote an entirely written script after Boseman’s death.

While that being an accomplishment in itself, that does raise a question- what was the original plot of the film? Well, luckily we have some hint about it.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Originally Looked Like a Character Study!

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter for a profile of Boseman’s franchise costar Lupita Nyong’o, revealed his original vision for the movie that he’d co-written with Joe Robert Cole, “before Chadwick passed was very much rooted in [Boseman’s character King T’Challa]’s perspective. It was a massive movie but also simultaneously a character study that delved deeply into his psyche and situation,” added the filmmaker, who also helmed 2018’s Black Panther.”

After Coogler, Nyong’o told THR how the final script differs from the original vision. She said that in the final script, Coogler instead “wrote something that so honored the truth of what every one of us was feeling, those of us who knew Chadwick. He created something that could honor that and carry the story forward. By the end, I was weeping,”

Let me know what do you think of this recent revelation? Do you think Shuri is the new Black Panther? Which one do you prefer? Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is slated to release on 11th November 2022.
