The final film that Marvel is ending their year with is Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever. So naturally we were expecting there is a lot of buzz around the filming given the special circumstances of the film as well. We got our first trailer of the film and what a trailer it was! The trailer confirmed a lot of things we were suspecting. We official know that T’Challa is dead. The film would start from that point as Wakanda has no ruler. We also got our first glimpse at Namor and Dominique Thorne’s Ironheart. However, along with that we got the first hint at the new Black Panther. The emotional and amazing trailer ends with a brief shot of a new person in the Black Panther suit. In the background, the figure that is getting up from the ground looks like Namor.

So, who is the new Black Panther? Well, we still don’t know. Popular candidates include Shuri, Killmonger, Nakia and M’Baku. However, the recent trailer does suggest that Shuri is going to take on the mantle but that may be a misdirection. However, today we have an interview from Ryan Coogler where he talks about how he almost left filmmaking after Chadwick Boseman’s death. Let’s hear his thoughts.

Black Panther 2: Ryan Coogler Was Directionless After Chadwick Boseman’s Life!

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ryan Coogler opens up about the dark phase of his life after the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020. The Creed director said, “I was at a point when I was like, ’I’m walking away from this business,’ I didn’t know if I could make another movie period, [let alone] another Black Panther movie, because it hurt a lot. I was like, ’Man, how could I open myself up to feeling like this again?’” He continued with, “I was poring over a lot of our conversations that we had, towards what I realized was the end of his life. I decided that it made more sense to keep going.”

Marvel Studios Producer Nate Moore further talked about how the film is about getting mourning someone and getting over them, “The movie is very much about how you move forward while dealing with a tragic loss. All of the characters, both old and new, are dealing with how loss can affect your actions in ways that are emotional and surprising.”

Black Panther actress Lupita N’yongo who plays Nakia talked about Ryan Coogler’s changed attitude, “One of my favorite refrains of [Ryan’s] while we were filming was, ’We’re making a big movie!’ He said it to pump us up when the day was getting long and arduous. If you know Ryan, you know he is a very modest human being, so it would tickle us to hear him say that. We would echo it all around the set to get refocused and re-energized.”

Coogler further talked about how he finally snapped himself back, “It’s my job as a filmmaker to do things that I have personal integrity with. If I don’t believe in what I’m doing, I’m going to have a hard time getting other people to do their best work. For them to do their best work, they have to believe in it. At the end of the day, the choices we make have to feel truthful to me. When filmmakers make things that don’t feel truthful to them, you can feel it. And I will argue that those projects don’t have a shot at working.”

He finished with a great quote about the truth of life, “There’s that idea of grief and intense emotion feeling like it comes in waves. Sometimes a wave can take you away where you lose control of it. You think you’re in control, but the water can always remind you that you’re not.”

Let me know who do you think will be the New Black Panther? Who is the more likely one? Which one do you prefer? Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is slated to release on 11th November 2022.
