Marvel has unloaded on us all the content they’re coming out within the next 3 years. On Day 2 of Comic Con we’d gotten a lot of confirmations to the things we were already suspecting and we definitely got some surprises. In the panel, Kevin Feigi walked up on the stage and re-announced the Blade movie. It was first announced at SDCC 3 years go, and we’ve been patiently waiting to hear more about it for a long time. We knew that Mahershala Ali is going to play the part but other than that, we never got any updates. But that was until now, as we now know when Blade is coming out and that it will be part of Phase 5. Although, all these updates seem like a recap as they’re almost 4 months old. After the SDCC’22 Marvel panel we never got any updates on the Blade movie.
Considering that the film is not that far away and knowing how Marvel likes to finish their film’s early, it was unusual for the film to not start shooting. Just last month I’d reported that Blade will go on floors from 5th October, however, the movie faced a huge delay due an unfortunate happening- director Bassam Tariq backed out from the project due to “scheduling conflicts”. As there was no captain to the ship, Blade was extremely delayed and so were other Marvel films as well. After the long delay I think the movie is back on track as the film has found a new director.
Who is Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Blade New Director?
After a long search, Marvel has hired Yann Demange to helm the blood fest. Demange is a relatively new filmmaker who has directed two feature films. He is French but lives in London. The two feature films that Demange has directed are White Boy Rick and ’71. It is good to see Marvel picking someone outside of the conventional belt to direct a film like this. As the announcement was made about Demange directing the Blade film, ex-director Bassam Tariq was quick to share his thoughts on Instagram. The full statement of the filmmaker is below:
“The news is finally out: my dear brother Yann Mounir Demange is directing Blade! Y’all are in for a real treat.
Yann was instrumental in giving me the courage to start developing MOGUL MOWGLI. He played a pivotal role during post as well, helping Riz, my editor (Adam Biskupski) and myself get the film across the finish line. During that time and during the pandemic, Yann became a cherished friend and brother. I couldn’t be happier for him.
As he steps into this role, I am proud to support him as he has supported me.”
