Marvel’s Echo was certainly not the most hyped under-development project of MCU, however the latest trailer certainly exploded the hype meter. The extended role of Kingpin and that split second Daredevil in red suit cameo made fans completely lose their minds! Echo seems like something adult Marvel fans were waiting for ever since Netflix Defenders-verse got cancelled. A new era of Marvel TV is beginning and Echo will serve as the testing ground for Marvel’s upcoming mature content including Daredevil: Born Again, Blade, and others. Just now with the new trailer, we received confirmation that Marvel has made Marvel’s Daredevil a canon event and hence, Echo will basically continue the iconic story of Daredevil and Kingpin. Therefore, this is the right time to recap everything major we need to know about all these characters before Marvel’s Echo debuts next week. So without further ado, let us begin!
Daredevil Season 1-3 and Defenders Recap
Daredevil Season 2 and Defenders dealt with The Hand and didn’t have much to do with Kingpin. However, they introduced fans to Punisher as well as other Defenders like Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage who might make an appearance in MCU soon. Now let us move on to the seasons which will directly affect Echo and Daredevil: Born Again. Season 1 and Season 3 saw Matt and his friends go up against Kingpin, aka Wilson Fisk, a ruthless Mob boss. Both the times, Kingpin tries to defame Daredevil and establish himself as a sympathetic figure in front of the city, however, both the times our heroes manage to deflect his efforts.
However, in efforts to stop him, there are costs involved. In season 1, they lose their friend and co-investigator Ben Urich, and in season 3, they lose their trustee Agent Ray Nadeem. Aside from this, countless other FBI agents and cops lose their lives to Kingpin and Bullseye. At the end of season 3, Kingpin goes to jail and Matt makes him pledge never to reveal his identity or he’d go after Fisk’s wife Vanessa. Matt, Foggy and Karen re-open their law-firm by the name of Nelson-Murdock and Paige. Meanwhile, Bullseye aka Agent Poindexter gets his back broken by Kingpin and the final sequence reveal some doctors fixing his spine using some non-conventional technology.
Spider-Man: No Way Home – Daredevil Recap
No Way Home surprised a lot of fans when Matt Murdock made an appearance as a “very good lawyer”. He didn’t just relieve Peter Parker of any case which could stick against him but also became the attorney of Happy Hogan. In the extended cut, we see him defending Happy for the “missing technologies case” against him. This makes us believe that Nelson-Murdock-and-Page is now probably blooming.
Hawkeye – Echo and Kingpin Recap
All the events from Hawkeye will directly connect to Maya’s story in Echo. Not only are we introduced to Maya and her tracksuit gang, but in the final two episodes we learn that her adoptive uncle Kingpin is behind everything wrong going on in Hawkeye series. Maya spends most of the time trying to take revenge on Hawkeye for killing his dad back when he became Ronin. During their showdown fight, Clint obviously wins but reveals that it was Kingpin who tipped him about her dad’s operations and apologizes for killing her dad and numerous other people in his grief.
Anyways, Maya now has a new mission which is to kill Kingpin and so she confronts him in the finale. Fisk apologizes for his mistake and tries to convince her that he loves her and killing his father was purely business. However, Maya doesn’t accept and proceeds to shoot him off screen. Well, it is quite clear from the promos that Kingin didn’t die and instead just lost an eye. So yes, he’ll be back not just in Echo and Daredevil: Born Again but probably rest of the Marvel Spotlight shows as well. The question here is that how Kingpin managed to escape / be free from prison when Matt and friends pretty much ensured he stays there in Season 3? Also, how did he get as super strong as he was in Hawekeye? Also, how did he never mention or put to use the tracksuit gang in the Daredevil series? Guess we’ll get to know some of these answers in Echo!
She-Hulk – Daredevil Recap
While Charlie Cox’ Matt made his MCU debut with No Way Home, it was She-Hulk where he properly debuted as Daredevil. Not only do we see Matt Murdock back in the court, but we also see him donning the iconic yellow-red Daredevil costume from the comics. Although, his appearance was overwhelmingly hyped, the characterization received a mixed response. Everyone praised Cox’ performance and the dark hallway fight sequence which is a signature of all Daredevil seasons including Defenders. However, criticism were made about how this Daredevil wasn’t that serious, cracked jokes, and that walk of shame sequence after having sex with She-Hulk. That sequence also put in jeopardy Matt’s relationship with Karen Page which was starting to bud once again at the end of Daredevil Season 3.
That pretty much wraps up our recap of Echo, Daredevil, as well as Kingpin before Marvel’s Echo debuts on January 9, 2024 only on Disney Plus!
