The Daredevil series on Netflix has been one of the best TV shows from Marvel, even if the show’s events did not any have impact on the MCU. The thing that baffles me more than anything is the TV shows Marvel is churning out now, even if they’re part of the MCU are nothing in comparison to Daredevil. Charlie Cox as Daredevil was one of the best casting Marvel has made. It’s right up there with RDJ as Ironman. As Marvel is expanding they’re bringing a lot of old characters back, including Daredevil for a Disney+ show. Ever since its announcement, the show much like all of MCU Phase 5 is facing production delays because of multiple factors. Even if the Hollywood strikes are getting over the MCU show is still not on track as there are reports that the series’ lead writers were fired!
Daredevil: Born Again Lead Writers Fired!
Apparently Marvel Studios has pushed the reset button on Daredevil: Born Again. Following the show’s shutdown due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Notably more than half of the show’s 18-episode order had been filmed, but the product had Kevin Feige (Marvel Studios head) feeling that the series “wasn’t working.” This led to the silent firings of head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman, while the directors who were hired to shoot the remaining episodes were also let go. The search has since begun for new writers and directors.
The report also claimed that Marvel is looking to change their approach towards the TV department. This is of course due to the horrifying critical reception of Secret Invasion. Marvel’s head of streaming, TV and animation, Brad Winderbaum, said, “We’re trying to marry the Marvel culture with the traditional television culture. It comes down to, ‘How can we tell stories in television that honor what’s so great about the source material?’”
Just like that one of the most hyped MCU shows has been ruined. Marvel doesn’t seem to have confidence in the project as the creative vision behind the show has been fired. Even if the show finds a new creative team, I think Daredevil: Born Again will be reduced to a mixture of two approaches that becomes a tone deaf show resulting into another disaster for Marvel. Truly, the superhero era is dead. This is the time where audiences are craving original cinema.
Daredevil: Born Again will start streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from Spring 2024.
