Daredevil John Wick Director to Make Marvel Reboot

Director of the John Wick films Chad Stahelski explains why he wouldn’t make Daredevil: Born Again. With the eponymous Netflix series, Daredevil made his first television appearance and ran for three seasons between 2015 and 2018. The future of Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock’s was unclear after Marvel pulled all of its original content from the streaming service, and there was little prospect for his comeback. Hardcore Daredevil fans have been demanding the return of the Man Without Fear to the screen ever since Marvel added all of its shows to Disney+.

Daredevil Is One Of MCU’s Most Important Street-Level Heroes

At Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2022 Hall H panel in July, additional information regarding the Daredevil reboot was released. Kevin Feige announced that Cox would reprise his role as Mudrock, and Vincent D’Onofrio would return as the Kingpin. As part of Marvel’s Phase 5 timetable, the series will debut in early 2024, having gained an 18-episode order. Cox will appear as Daredevil in She-Hulk and Echo before making a comeback as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, but Mudrock’s complete story will only be developed in the reboot show.

Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick 4, recently spoke with Comic Book to discuss whether or not he would be interested in helming Daredevil: Born Again. The director didn’t appear to be as eager; he underlined the drawbacks of joining a well-known IP, emphasising that if he were to direct episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, he would have to satisfy the nuances of the source material, the studio, and the audience, which would limit his creative freedom and risk making his work feel repetitive.

“Look at the filmmaker’s challenge, right? The fans want us to make something that fits in what they’ve kind of seen before. So it’s slightly nostalgic and kind of what they want but subverted enough to be different and fresh. Like, keep saying that. You want the same, but different. How do you keep doing that with 50 Star Wars properties? You’re going to mess up. You’re going to tread. I’m not defending either side, it’s just a tricky line when you’re dealing with existing IP, especially something as massive as a 75-year-old superhero comic book or a 40-year-old Star Wars fan base.”

Daredevil: Born Again is set for a Spring 2024 release.
