Out of all the Marvel characters owned by Fox, Deadpool was turning out to be one of the biggest successes. So, it when Disney bought them out, it was a huge relief. Ryan Reynolds was supposed to play Wade Wilson in the Fox X-Men universe for a very long time. He did appear in brief roles for in movies like X-Men Origins: Wolverine. However, the appearances were so bad that many fans demanded Fox to either drop the character from the universe or do him right. Funnily enough, Deadpool was actually introduced into the Marvel Comics as a joke. It was to mock the DC character of Death Stroke. The character’s real name is Slade Wilson and Deadpool’s name is Wade Wilson. Yep, no one stretched any muscles there. However as Ryan Reynolds wanted to play the characters so desperately he did a mock shoot which went viral and fans loved it.
Reynolds asked the fans to write to Fox if they really wanted to see the film happen and guess what? That is exactly what happened. Fox was overwhelmed by the amount of requests they’d gotten from fans. So in 2016 Deadpool was released and despite it being R-Rated it was a box office juggernaut. With great critical reception and an amazing box office run it was natural that a sequel was happening. Deadpool 2 came out in 2018 and was a success again. It was not as good as the first film but it was not a disappointment. It was going great until Disney acquired Fox, which was great news as now the MCU would have all their heavy hitters.
The problem was that this put the Deadpool franchise in danger of a reboot and an actor change. However, Marvel had clarified a long time ago that they won’t reboot the Deadpool movies and won’t replace as Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. This meant that Marvel would have to find a creative and seamless way to bring Deadpool into the MCU. While the updates regarding the film have been sparse we knew that the film is coming soon. After Marvel, skipped announcing the anything about the film at D23 Expo and San Diego Comic Con, they’ve spilled out some information out now.
Deadpool 3 Releasing in Phase 5?
In the video, Ryan Reynolds addresses the fact that Marvel skipped announcing this at these big conventions. He further went on to joke about not having any ideas for what Deadpool 3 could be about and doing tasks around his house wearing the black and gray Deadpool suit. The video ends with a background appearance from Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds asking him whether he wants to play a Wolverine and he said I quote,” Yeah, sure Ryan.” This is the biggest announcement of the day. I’m so excited about this.
The announcements ends by revealing the release date of the film- 6th September 2024. Check out the Full Announcement Video for Deadpool 3 on Twitter below:
