Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Runtime Revealed

Doctor Strange was introduced in the MCU for the first time in 2016. The film was directed by Scott Derrickson and the titular role was played by Benedict Cumberbatch. The movie was lauded by critics and fans. Since then Doctor Strange has become a vital character in the MCU and has appeared in many crossover movies like Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Apart from the MCU, he also voice his character in Marvel’s What If…? After appearing in multiple such movies, the character finally got his long-awaited sequel titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The character is based on a character in the Marvel comics of the same name. He deals with magic and mysticism, introducing whole new layers of its reality to audiences alongside its titular hero.

In a recent interview with New Indian Express, Benedict Cumberbatch revealed his future plans in the MCU as it was recently reported that he was seeking a break from acting given his recent promotion to a father. Let’s take a look at what the actor had to say.

Doctor Strange ‘s Benedict Cumberbatch – Break or No Break?

This news came just off the heels of his sequel getting released on Disney+. The sequel enjoyed a successful Box Office run but many claim it underperformed than everyone had thought given the hype for the film. The sequel also failed to justify its title with a lackluster screenplay and dull characters. It seems as though Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen were the only saving grace for the film. Having said that, seems like Benedict is all in for a third one as well, “I hope so, I would love to do another one. Doctor Strange is such a complex character and it feels like there is so much more to explore with him.” Cumberbatch added, “He is such a brilliant character and I’m still having a wild time playing him.”

He did talk about his role in Multiverse of Madness as he played different iterations of the character or rather dreamt them. “This multiversal narrative structure or idea is like it is in our own lives. We play multiple roles,” he said. “We have an incredible capacity and imaginative space in our subconscious to imagine ourselves into different circumstances in our dreamscape, and I feel that this is an extrapolation of that in the sense that he’s meeting other versions who are essentially him, but they’ve made different choices in different circumstances with different outcomes. So, it’s a great fuel from a very odd spectacular self-therapy.”

With the likes of RDJ’s Tony Stark and Chris Evans’ Captain America gone, many consider him as the most important character in the mix right now. While there is Thor and Spider-Man, no one seems to have more work and involvement in everything than Doctor Strange himself. The actor had his say on this as well, “I’m still surprised at how prominent he has become,” he explained. “I always knew there was amazing potential there because of all the aspects to the character, but I definitely had no idea that we would get to be at this point with the multiverse aspect when we started out.”

Regardless, I think with the introduction of Charlize Theron’s Clea at the end of Multiverse of Madness, it is safe to assume that Doctor Strange would return for another solo movie. Let me know what you think of this news and did you enjoy Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness?
