Fantastic Four and X-Men are Marvel’s two crowned jewels that they didn’t have access to for a while. Now that they have their rights, they don’t want to mess them up. I think the Fantastic Four have been messed up enough in their three or four appearances on the big screen. I don’t need to tell you about the X-Men. They started out well at Fox but then soon their narrative too became cash grab deals that didn’t have any recognition to the vision with which they’d started. The plans that Marvel President Kevin Feigi revealed at San Diego Comic Con last year, did confirm the official entry of the Fantastic Four but didn’t feature anything for the X-Men except for Deadpool 3 which was announced later. Many sources have confirmed that Marvel wishes to deal with the X-Men in Phase 7.
However, Fantastic Four have a huge role to play in this saga. We know that WandaVision director Matt Shakman will helm with the film, for which he left his Star Trek film. The writers of the film have also been announced- Disaster Wedding’s Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer. As the film is supposed to begin filming late this year or early next considering its 2025 release date, it is high time that Marvel finalizes their cast for the Fantastic Four. Many high profile names have been attached to the project but none have been finalized like Penn Badgley, John Krasinski, and Diego Luna. Both Krasinski and Luna have clarified that they’re not contesting for the role. Another big name is getting attached to the project now as Marvel is looking to cast Adam Driver as their Mr. Fantastic.
Fantastic Four: Is Adam Driver Confirmed as Reed Richards?
Industry insider Jeff Sneider has given an unverified update that Adam Driver may be Marvel’s top choice to play the privileged role of Mr. Fantastic or possibly even Doctor Doom. He did added that this update has come to him from an unproven source but based on all the things happening at Marvel, it smells right to him. However, now there is another source that it is telling the same story. Beyond the Trailer’s Grace Randolph, in a recent video hinted that Adam Driver who played Kylo Ren in Star Wars will be joining the MCU.
She indicated this by saying, “a front-runner for a certain stretchy role.” Moreover, The Direct also reports Marvel’s top choice to play Reed Richards is Adam Driver. The Two times Academy Awards Nominee (Best Actor- Marriage Story and Best Supporting Actor- BlacKkKlansman) will be great addition to the MCU but I just hope that they don’t waste him like Christian Bale. The actor is 39 years old and he is already one of the most capable actors of this era. He has the experience of big budget films thanks to Star Wars and he is a phenomenal actor in the small dramas that he stars in.
When it comes to the actor’s schedule it doesn’t look like a problem either. Driver currently has two projects in post-production with 65 and Ferrari, meaning his work there is likely done. He is currently shooting Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis, although that should wrap up in March. This means he has no announced project after this. This would be an ideal time for him to fill his schedule by joining the MCU as Mr. Fantastic. The rumored cast of the Fantastic Four is Jodie Comer as Sue Storm, Ross Lynch as the Human Torch and Seth Rogen as the Thing.
It is clear that the Fantastic Four would play a huge role in Marvel’s Multiverse Saga and whatever will start in Phase 4 considering the caution and care with which Marvel are approaching their entity. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty would naturally have a huge part for Fantastic Four as Kang is nothing but a 31st century descendent of Reed Richards. This bit of information makes them more important than what you’ve previously thought.
The Fantastic Four reboot is slated to release in theatres on 14th February 2025.
