The Fantastic Four are Marvel Comics’ first superhero family and after a long wait they’re finally entering the MCU. They’re definitely one of the most famous Marvel characters in the comics. I would like to say the same about their adaptations but we all know how that story goes. Until now there have been three attempts to make a Fantastic Four film. The first was in way back in 1994, you might not have heard about it. The second attempt was in 2004 and despite the film being absolutely mediocre, it got sequel- Fantastic Four- Rise of the Silver Surfer, which was equally bad if not worse. The last one, probably the worst attempt was in 2015. Fans had long given up hopes of seeing a good Fantastic Four film but after Disney acquiring Fox, the MCU has their rights.
It was very important for Marvel to make their reboot the best out there and given the competition, that shouldn’t be a hard job. Clearly Marvel knows this based on the amount of noise this reboot is bringing in. The news came from San Diego Comic Con’22 when Kevin Feigi announced that there was an official Fantastic Four reboot coming in MCU’s Phase 6. However, we were unaware of the film’s cast, crew or literally anything else. There have been many names associated to this project, even the great Steven Spielberg was rumored to helm the reboot. Thankfully at Disney’s D23 Expo, Kevin Feigi announced that WandaVision’s director Matt Shakman would be helming the reboot. However, no cast announced even if we all expected it.
Anyways, the latest update we got about the film is that Marvel has hired the writers who are going to pen down their version of the Fantastic Four. However, now as we’re wondering and waiting what the cast looks like? A major actor has confirmed that he is out of the race for playing Mr. Fantastic. Who? Well, it is someone who has already played it once in the MCU- John Krasinski.
John Krasinski Is Not Mr Fantastic Anymore!
In a recent appearance at a press event for promoting Jack Ryan Season 3, John Krasinski confirmed to the Wrap that he has had no discussions with Kevin Feigi or anyone at Marvel for returning as Reed Richards. He confirmed that there are no updates and confirmed that he is out of the race for playing Mr. Fantastic, so there will be a new face who will play Mr. Fantastic. The Office actor said:
“There aren’t any discussions at all, the only discussion I had was actually in the second-to-last week of Jack Ryan. Kevin Feige called and said would you ever fly to L.A. and play in our sandbox for a day? I was honored to do it. I flew right from Budapest when we wrapped and went right to the ‘Doctor Strange’ set. I’m a big fan of all those characters and that world, so to get to play in that sandbox for one day was a real thrill.” “It was totally insane. To be in a room with all those people, and again to be a part of that narrative is crazy. But yeah, being turned into spaghetti wasn’t my end goal in life as far as how it goes in the Marvel universe, but you know what it was fun nonetheless.”
The Fantastic Four reboot is slated to release in theatres on 14th February 2025.
